In the UK....i have to go to a mental health clinic but how long does it normally take and how exactly do they check im sane?
As a side note i am going private, do i still have to go through the mental health check?

it's just a preliminary check that the NHS insists on to ensure that you are not suffering from some other more general condition. It takes one visit of about an hour.
If you go private then no it is not needed. It's basically mainly there for the CYA box tickers in the NHS.

I'm going private too.
Like Jenny says, you do not normally need a separate general check, but I would still expect it to be incorporated in to a 3 month therapy/monitoring requirement before HRT to meet international guidelines.
..and remember if you select the right private treatment it can link back to the NHS/your GP to cut med costs down.

Can i just ask without meaning to sound naive, what you mean by 'the right private treatment'. I am aware that you have to ask to be referred back onto the NHS but im not sure on what rules they will accept/ not accept you?

I'ts seems that the NHS can be a bit picky about referrals, it's just that reports suggest that private specialists who also do NHS work seem to get better response (presumably they come up on the NHS database if your GP checks).
