so when you feel down (or not) what activity you do that distracts you or make you feel happy
or.. what makes you happy?
for me it is watching a good movie or reading a good book. If that doesn't work, Nap.
walking or any kind of exercise is good, or writing stuff down helps, too. Listening to certain music can usually change my mood almost instantly. And never underestimate the power of dancing to change your mood for the better ;)
Company forces me to cheer up usually. Drawing, reading, possibly running, playing video games. Music is good.
Going to a museum, bookshop or wandering the interesting little streets and alleyways mellows me out and cheers me up.
I deal with a degree of depression related to various things on a daily basis and there are a variety of things I do to get me through each day
Taking care of my pets, general household chores, listening to music, dancing about
But the thing that really makes me feel good is being able to do something nice for someone else
The joy and happiness of seeing that smile coming back to me is worth more than gold
The thankful smile of another is BRIGHT ORANGE SUNSHINE to my heart
Any music that relaxes me can bring me out of a downturn.
And fun adventure-type movies if they're well written (and have a good ending).
Exercise, reading a book. Hiding under the blankets doesn't work. Shopping and buying stuff for friends (and me).
When the horror really hits nothing helps except sleep and the support I get from my family here. Usually in the reverse order ::)
Cindy
"so what does make you feel happy , or changes your mood..."
"I have this "Bird" No really...she's my "Chick" und sometimes when we are alone...und she senses that I might become a bit moody...she comes and comforts me...natural-like thus making me feel uninhibited...I can be ME around her which I have no problem of being; Sauve, Debonair...Dean and Frankie-baybie rolled up into one persona...ME...!!! This Woman lets me be that guy that I kno I am without asking any questions like "why..."( kno' what I mean... ;))
*Note* Bird & Chick are in no way meant to be derogatory towards anyone nor is it meant to offend anyones statue...I use these words interchangeably because my "pet" name for her is "Pige..." Anyone familiar with (The) Lady and (the) Tramp...it was actually our first Disney movie together und well I AM her "Tramp" und she IS definitely MY Lady...Ergo "Pige"...that's me story und I'm sticking to it...!!!"
Music music music, either playing or just listening to it. (although just listening is never just listening, I have to sing along)

omg how could I have forgotten retail therapy!? Yes, shopping is always a definite cheerer-upper :)
I'm always in a different place when I'm done exercising, and it's always a better place then where I started from.
sleep
and a smile...
Music. My best friend. And Friends (TV Show). After all these years it never fails to make me laugh and cheer me up.
Smiling.

The idea that one day my life will be over.
This cheers you up, that's sad. :(
I like to clean and organize, watch TV, chat on boards, but drinking usually makes me the happiest, not a good habit to get into though. I do love music but it triggers my drinking so they go hand in hand.
Music, everytime. I think that it has saved my life a few times. Good friends, nice long baths (preferably with good friends and music )
Music, naps, sex, cuddeling, playing fetch with my dog, feeding the kitty cat nips and watching him act the fool, hanging with friends, going to online trans suport sites.
stuff like that and anything else that may come to mind.
A number of you have mentioned sex. for me that will change my mood but not in any positive way.
ye chocolate is good, bitterest is bestest.

for me only if they are really really clean
like most my mood is changed by music (well most of the time to the worst not the best) other than that i got nothing , drinking could go both ways so it counts as a risky mood changer. sometimes just watching some funny show , chatting with friends helps , sometimes just pretending to be happy fixes your mood after a while , and as laura said , the idea of life will be over someday makes me able to continue with no breakdowns
music without a doubt. when im particularly down i get frustrated by tv films etc but as long as my mp3 player is at hand i can feel better listening to lots of early - mid 90's stuff that i grew up with.

I have figured out how to lie to my senses and experiance sex as I want to experiance it. Not a perfect fix but it works well until I get a surgical fix.
I try and focus on the emotional and romantic aspects and just experiance the sex just slightly disassociated while running the scene through my mind the way it should be going were the world a more perfect place.

that takes finding a partner who can deal with you in the first place and somehow feeling sex instead of doing a sort of out of body thing which is the only way I have been able to do it.
... and sunshine :)
Good point about watching a funny show, Scrubs cheers me up every time.

aw no now i've got to say you cheer me up as well, darn ;)
I can't say im really bothered about sex...i like it an all but if i had to stop having it for the rest of my life i wouldn't exactly cry.
I like a nice cuppa tea and my friend Addison's little ginger cat to curl up next to me. If im really bad i like to sleep...cuddles also work wonders, im very soft to hugs.

I used to talk to my dog, I miss her. She knew a lot of secrets, mine and my kids's

i used to do this with my cat ,weirdly she used to have that look when i talk to her as if she understands what i was saying , i guess she somehow sensed the emotion itself =\
another thing i remembered today is day dreaming , whenever things get too difficult to deal with just now , i close my eyes , and "disconnect" from the world and start wild meaningless daydreaming heh , like today i was daydreaming that i could log into any kind of wireless network with my brain *pfff* eventually someone hacked into my brain!!
the bad thing about it is it takes me in a circle of thoughts ,not a straight line .which means that my thoughts always take me back to the original problem somehow
Sometimes it circles back but leaves you with a new perspective.

true , i guess that's why i try to disconnect for a while
"A number of you have mentioned sex. for me that will change my mood but not in any positive way..." "LordKat"
Ok/ including me-self I counted 3 people who said sex was a mood change fer them...the others said either reading, with music being the number one mood change und friends or good company following...making sex a 3:40 ratio or 7 1/2%...that's pretty low I would say... ;D
Most of the time however...if I am feeling blue [which really ISN"T that often] I will write...und not necessarily "blue" stuff either...I am an optimist und believe that the glass is @times 1/2 full rather than being 1/2 empty...thus projecting some of me greatest work...of which I am about to publish....
No matter the ratio, it was a number ( 3 apparently) that said it.
