Okay girls, I'll admit I have Coach purse. >:-) I have to say, it's way cute! :D It's an oversized handbag with the traditional Coach 'C' print and patent leather accents. The top opens like a coin purse with the little boinger clip thingies, except they're way oversized to match the size of the purse. It is *super* cute. I was leery walking into the store, but I knew the second I saw it that it was perfect for me!
What's your purse like?
I have a small black purse that has four pockets on the outside. I could not tell you the brand. It is my main one but I own six others. Depends on my mood and the occasion.
My main purse is black canvass I think, no name brand. It's got 2 small external pockets on the ends, and a flat pocket on each side. The inside is primarily 1 big pocket with a small pouch-like pocket on the inside. It's pretty casual.
My secondary purse is a black leather (I think) triangular backpack-style purse. It's got 1 zippered pocket on the front, a small open-top pocket on the back, and a small zippered pocket inside the main pocket. I use this one for less casual occasions.
I have a small black leather purse from Nine West for everyday
But more often I'll have either a back pack or comp. bag
I also have a huge black leather bag for when I need to bring everything and the kitchen sink
Then there's the assortment of glitzy goin' out clutches and such that don't get much use :'(
I purchased a pink one 7 years ago, but my dad dumped it away somewhere at unknown time.
Now I have one from my wife, as she no longer uses it. I guess she purchased it more than 15 years ago, and actually it came apart when I received it. I had a repairman mend it. The result was nice, and I like the long metalic chain.

Super cute new avatar, Rhalkos!! Is that you??
Which one? I don't think I can count how many I own. But most are oversized and suitcase like. I love enormous bags!
I want to get a bag but I don't know what to get.
one that's survived having my bf's blood splattered over it.
Aim lower next time.
This thread makes me realise that here in the UK we speak a different language. For us a purse is a tiny little pouch in which you put a few coins.
The thing you clutch in your hand or have on a strap over your shoulder is a bag!
Anyway now we've got that straightened out mine tend to be genuine leather and largish with many multiple pockets that enable me to carry my entire world inside. I have about 20 of them at present varying in size and style from a couple of dainty little clutch bags that I use for evening wear to bigger ones I take out during the day.
They are usually reasonaby good brands too like Tula, Mia, Prada, Louis Vuitton etc, because sure you can buy a $100 cheap imitation leather number but often it won't last five minutes, whereas if you spend $1000 or more on something like a Louis V. you tend to look after it better and hence it survives a lot longer.

Hey nobody ever said I was cheap to run Ken. ;D
also it depends on what is a month's salary - when I was working $1000 wouldn't have brought my attention for even half a week... :D Although admittedly since I have become an impoverished writer for $1000 you could have me for a month or more!

In my own language (Korean), I sometimes use confusingly 'purse' and 'pocketbook'.
A few days ago, I got a call from police at midnight that somebody found my 'billfold' in a beach. When I went to the police to pickup the billfold, I used a term denoting 'pocketbook', making the lady police officer confused. Finally, she corrected me that it is not a pocketbook, but a billfold. I stored all of my credit and id cards with small amout of cash in the billfold. The finder left his phone number, but I could not reach him/her at the number.
Oh. Here is my big pink PURSE.

Allegedly, my dad threw away the pink purse at some unkown place. Fortunately, its price was just $20.

Yes, that sounds completely insane. Factor in that a lot of women have
several purses (to match different shoes/outfits, I assume), and...wow.

I nearly have as many purses as shoes, I resently purchased a purple lace dress with a matching cute lacy purse, 2inside pockets, just enough inside for my hand mirror and a lippy, a woman can never have too many purses......
p
Great responses!! :) I guess I should've been more clear on what I meant as a purse! I have two other 'bags' for other occasions; one tiny black one to go with my LBD and one everyday one for bumming around. Other then that, I have a clutch and coin purse. :) I use the coin purse as my wallet everyday.
Now I believe someone mentioned shoes... No way do I have as many purses as I have shoes!! I may well be a shoe-aholic!! :P Even more strange is that I keep them all in the original box they came in!! lol!!
I have a wallet, it fits in my pocket, it sometimes needs to go on a diet. ( Long Story) I have 3 pair shoes, work tennis, work steel toe hikers, dress shoes. What more could you possibly need?
3 pairs of shoes. The delightful simplicity of male life LOL - I have more pairs of just boots than that!
My fairly typical wardobe consists of 20+ bags/purses of various different styles sizes and colours. 60+ pairs of shoes (ditto). Hundreds of items of accessories and small jewelery, and at least 200+ different outfits ranging from jeans and leathers (as per current avatar) to designer dresses, and one genuine DIOR evening gown the price of which you simply don't want to know! (which I'm saving for the day I pick up some award or other ;)) All of which takes about 5 large cupboards to contain.
I don't even have a wallet - I have 3 forms of ID and a debit card, which I shove in the back pocket of whatever pants I'm wearing. And if I get cash, it goes in the other pocket. I carried a wallet all through high school but eventually got tired of the bulk, so I haven't had one for a decade or so.
Shoes... I have 6 pairs. 2 steel-toed boots from my Navy uniforms, one pair Doc Martens oxfords, one pair skate shoes, one pair good running shoes, one pair falling-apart-and-leaking running shoes. Oh, and I guess my $2 flipflops make 7.
I match your flip flops, I have a pair of bedroom slippers.
It's just the damn list of stuff that I pretty much have to carry everywhere. Wallet, knife, lip gloss, Swiss Army knife, phone (perhaps charger too), calender/notebook and pen, a book (yes, having a book on me is an absolute necessity, in case someone tries to talk to me), lighter, bit of string (a shoelace - you would be amazed at how often that simple bit of sting gets used), hard shell glasses case w/ other (sun/indoors) glasses in them, keys, most of the time a bike wrench, often other tools, a little weed pipe perhaps, and if so, then a film can from a 35mm roll to hold the bud in, camera (with me about 80% of the time, not to mention whatever I've picked up along the way that day.
As for shoes, just guy shoes here.
- black leather high-top work boots - free toe
- Timberland work boots, more like a hiking boot, composite toe
- My newest pair of New Balance running shoes (I have a fetish for NB shoes)
- My old - with holes in them and such - NB shoes for painting, getting soaked by riding in the rain, disposable.
- black/grey suede leather skate shoes, Converse, close as I get to formal shoes
- Teva River Runner sandals (essential for going the River and Coast)
I alternate between 3 main handbags in which I can carry all kinds of stuff and usually do, and 4 little designer bags that are barely big enough to hold a credit card and drivers license but are color coordinated to my main fashion color schemes: pink, green, purple/lilac/burgundy, and blue. Those are for going out to clubs and stuff where you don't want to be saddled with a large bag all night.
shoes, forget it, I lost count long ago lol
I have different styles and colors to match the shoes. Different sizes also in case I need to carry extra shoes for walking longer distances.

:o
What more could you possibly need??? Heels, flats, sandels, open toes, boots, flip-flops, dress shoes, platforms, (large inhale), wedges, clogs, runners, slippers AND... I could go on forever!! lol!! :P
You boys with your three pairs of shoes... It makes me giggle!!
I've one pair of 'boy' shoes. Gym shoes. At least 10 pair of boots, a wardrobe full of shoes. at least ten bags that go with different outfits, but I tend to use one bag most of the time. It seems to have a built in black hole so that other objects arrive in the bag by some strange gravitational force.
Now ear rings, that is a collection.
Cindy
I usually like big hobo bags (so I can put all of my crap in it) in neutral colors (so it costs less money to have purses match with a wider variety of purses). My girlfriend prefers smaller purses because she thinks they're more feminine.

Oh I live just minutes from a Coach... OUTLET. This is terrific, as long as one is OK with last month/season/year's styles. But the prices are maybe 25% vs. Macy's or whatever.
I have two - a cute black leather one with chrome buckles and an oval ring that is sort of like a flat pouch shape with pleats in the leather. Short strap and leopard skin pattern on the inside.
My favorite is a corset purse in bright pink with black lace laid over it - sort of like this one:

That one I only take to clubs and events and such. It gets so many comments! People love it!
I have a simple messenger bag from LEI. Has a white flower embroidered on the flap. Is otherwise just plain black. It is the first bag that I really every started using and I can't believe it took me this long to come to my senses. The convenience of it is just awesome. I'll never be without at least one again.
the bag isnt important whats in it is!
I got so much crap I love to tote around I have 2 bags. One stays in the car with all the extrainious stuff. All my vital stuff goes in my main purse.
I have maybe a dozen bags, most of which I bought at thrift stores (one is a Prada knockoff) or outlets. I have two small-to-mid-size leather bags that I used a lot - identical except one is black and one brown - that cost less than $25 for both. I have a Coach leather bag - cream with brown trim - that is good in the summer that I bought it for 75% off.
But the bag I carry the most is a Brighton bag, mid-sized (12"x7"), black leather with brown leather trim, that is comfortable on the shoulder tucked under my arm or carrying by hand. I love it. It carries more than I need so there's always room for more. It has three zippered pockets and a zipper on top so stuff doesn't go flying everywhere at inopportune times of clumsiness. :P

Blasphemy! Fashion is always more important than functionality! :D
I am married, so I get fashion lazy. Not like I need to cacth a mate. (I know I am horrible.)
I have realised I am definitely on the right tram, as the idea of having a multitude of handbags, purses, shoes and other accessories, to go with a multitude of outfits, does not cause the same reaction as when I was playing the part of a married bloke.
Then I was like Kat. A couple of pair of good jeans, a pair for gardening and fishing. A pair of runners, and a pair of boots. Oh, and a good suit only worn for weddings and funerals.
Now I am looking forward to having a walk-in wardrobe big enough to hold everything! Imelda Marcos, hah. An amatuer!
I heard that a proper fashion style is that the color of the purse should be the same as that of the shoes or heels. Although there could be some exceptions, that rule restricts me in choosing purses, as most of my heels are black.
Barbie~~
With few exceptions, the purse, the shoes, and the belt should match (more or less) - if they are all leather, that is. I also wear gold-toned jewelry with brown shoes/purse/belt and silver-toned jewelry with black shoes/purse/belt. My big orange plastic braclet can go with either, but it doesn't go with blue or red tops. My red patent leather shoes only go with a black purse (not brown! :icon_blah:).
I think you want to look put-together - like you actually gave some thought to what you are wearing and may have looked in the mirror before leaving the house.

lol! This is so true!! I spend a lot of time planning and coordinating my outfits. I like to think it shows. :)
Stock take sales are on here. I just went to Harbour Town a shopping mall of 'seconds shops'. Yes, my wimpy credit card is sobbing in her new handbag, Country Road, soft leather, reduced form $250 to $100, a bargain -see I essentially saved money. Pair of brown leather boots reduced from $100 to $60, a girl can't have enough boots. Oh and then I had an accident in Table eight and somehow bought two skirts and a top that were on special, I didn't mean too, please forgive me you whimpering piece of plastic. I won't tell her about the new ear rings; 40% off and I had a $50 voucher on top of that, so in reality they basically gave them to me for a small exchange of money.
Now where were we :-* :-* :-* ::)

You ladies are hilarious. Much easier to have 8 pair of black jeans and assorted shirts for all occasions with one pair of shoes and wallet in your pocket. You match every time that way and only takes 10 minutes to get dressed. Due to sleep deprivation from in studies I have read recently, no wonder on the crankiness when your patiently waiting, and waiting and waiting for leaving to get somewhere. ( I need that time in case I get lost.)
Well, it's more complicated than that if you want to be able to dress for all occasions - need to add brown shoes, black shoes, brown belt and black belt (or reversible belt), khakis, blue slacks, grey slacks, and a few shirts and ties. But then, you can go to your nearest department store with that list, have them measure you, and they'll assemble you a wardrobe and have it at the tailor within 2 hours for under $500. It'll last for 5+ years if you don't put on weight or dress up every day, and it still only takes 10 minutes to get dressed no matter what level of formality you're going for :)
well Ok to one pair dress pants but I meant shirts and ties when I said assorted shirts. and long as a belt is brown or black, it don't really matter. As to $500 for clothes, that might be what I spend in a decade. No tailors around unless you go to a bridal shop.

Well, Ken, I wore a uniform for 24 years. It was
really easy to get dressed (except that I would wear only green ribbon awards one day, red ones the next, etc., just to switch things up). It is a real pleasure to hunt through my closet for just the right outfit to match my mood and the weather and then go out and someone will tell me I look nice. :D
And Kyril, I never owned a brown belt or brown shoes until I started being Kate. ::) Why complicate matters? (I once had a male friend who would buy a dozen pairs of underwear. He would carefully rotate them so that they would all wear out at the same time. Then he would go to the mall, parking closest to the underwear supply store, dash in and buy another batch.)

I'm glad you find it enjoyable. I always found it annoying. I do admit your pics and the pics of other ladies are normally a pleasure to see. I don't have the patience or something. I like to look nice but I never liked attempting to put on a face or the tortuous clothing that was supposedly required.
I used that excuse for shaving too. Nothing wrong with wash and go hair, even if it is on your legs or pits. I guess it explains the hatred of girls in school but I didn't deride their choices, never understood why they chose to do it to me.
I knew I guy who only bought black corduroy pants, white shirts and the same leather jacket. He reckoned it was so easy just to throw stuff out when it was used and buy the same again. I have to admit my male wardrobe has always been small and totally drab. My real wardrobe is becoming a work of art welcome at any major gallery; and I may have to move to one to house it .

If all I need is money, music, and writing utensils (or other comprably small things), I just shove everything in my cargo pockets. If I have no cargo pockets, I will sometimes carry smaller belongings in a small blue bag with a cool-looking mandala on it. If it's a day where I happen to be making an actual, concerted effort to pass as a guy AND I don't have cargo pockets, well... I'm up a creek without a paddle. XD (That happens every time I have field experience, because my "teacher pants" have really sorry excuses for pockets, and teaching is one of those places where "I'm a guy" goes over better than "Uh, I'm a something. You can call me anything but she.")
If I have a bigger load, I generally just throw everything in my backpack (with is, well... a backpack). Or on rare in-between occassions when all I have is a sketchbook or notepad or something, I have a hemp messenger bag covered in various witty buttons I've collected over time.
I have all my bases covered. 8D (My various bags/carrying compartments are clearly intended more for function than fashion. They look cool, but that is not their primary purpose in life. If you find me carrying a bag that matches my outfit, you can bet your butt it was a complete fluke!)
Don't have a purse yet :(
But I will be getting a shoulderbag soon ^_^
I just bought a new one last week. It was only nineteen dollars at Ross, and it is by 'Nine West'; I just love it. The shoulder strap is just the perfect length that lets me act fast when making transactions at the store. I just hate fumbling around with cash and points cards:/

That's too bad. :(
I used to always use this tiny little Asian looking purse that my roommate lent me, but that got stolen when I left it on a seat at a bar. Like 5 minutes after forgetting it I came back to look for it and it was gone. :'( The worst part was that it was a going away gift to my roommate from her friend from Hong Kong. And if that wasn't bad enough it also had my roommate's car keys in it. Needless to say it was not a good night.
