My father is probably one of the biggest bigots you'll meet, but as we were sitting there this evening, talking, I felt like we were relating man to man. He says to me in conversation, "Look, if I went out and __________________________, I wouldn't say to you, 'Hey, man, I gotta tell you about this." And I realized in that how much it meant to me that my father is somewhat cognizant on some level I'm not a cisgender female, and how uncomfortable I am. Maybe I'm reaching for it, but there was almost a moment of relief.
He doesn't accept my gay brother, but he said years ago he had no problem with transgender people. He has never known an out one. It just felt good to be treated like a man. Anyone else been there?
