A five-day schedule of activities to raise awareness about homophobia in schools has run into parental opposition at a Cariboo-Chicotlin secondary school.
The activities, planned a month ago and spearheaded by the gay-straight alliance (GSA) at Columneetza Secondary School, were expected to start on Monday, May 17 with a couple half-hour long informative assemblies, including a video that showcased students' experiences with homophobia and its impact.
The assemblies were cancelled, Jolene Veitch, a member of Columneetza's GSA told Xtra on May 17.
Wonder when they are planning an anti-racism event? Will the parents complain then?

Students at a Williams Lake High School are going to be dressing up as the opposite sex Friday in defiance of a school district decision to cancel anti-homophobic events planned at Columneetza Secondary.
Three events, including a "gender bender day" on Friday, were rescheduled or cancelled after some parents complained the weeklong slate of events conflicted with class time.
But organizer Lexi Saffel, a Grade 12 student and president of the Williams Lake Gay Straight Alliance, wasn't buying it.
