Title: female voice
Post by: lucaluca on May 25, 2010, 05:09:04 PM
if you already developed your female voice is it exhausting to speak with it? or does it feel unnatural? or do you get used to it and your female voice becomes really your voice and you don't even notice it any longer that you adjust your voice.

I actually find it hard now to find my old male voice.  And when I do it hurts.  And scares small children and dogs.

The voice of doom.  >:-)

I'm currently working on mine and I've actually found it's now more tiring using boy mode voice...and this is after just a couple of months of practice really. I'm still not really used to it, though it's getting to the point when if i do say something there's an odds on chance that i'll use my female voice rather than my male. I'm told that it passes as female over the phone, but the challenge for me at the moment is mentally making it my default voice. it's all just practice really...i've only been trying for a couple of months and I've come a long way, so it's not hard.

Not at all; just the opposite as Janet said. It does take a bit of practice to get there.

yes, after a while you don't think about "adjusting" it, it just becomes your normal voice. Though I have been accused of using it too much sometimes, just ask LordKAT lol  :-X

After a year or so I barely had to adjust it anymore but still checked on it daily. I was able to get it up to the proper pitch (with some struggle) within a few days of diligence, but keeping it there during those hour long phone conversations took about a year. After a few years my voice is still getting better in more subtle ways all the time...never assume your voice is perfect and one day it will be :)

Chloe has the voice of a very pretty fairy. She can talk to me all she wants.

I've not been using mine all that long two and abit months I record myself I hate my stupid voice and I think I sound like a boy, but when I play steam games with friends and I chat on the microphone I get "She's" And "her" by strangers and Id as female on the phone alot it's starting to loose it's surprise factor. Only once or twice dose someone outright ask me what gender I am.

As for effort it's currently mostly intuitive and automatic I speak without thinking what my larynx is doing however some of the subtler bits I still I do have to think about and if I don't think about it at all I run the risk of letting nasty male harmonics slide into my voice.

I tried a few days ago to speak in my old male voice (someone on steam didn't believe me when I told them who I was) it was bad, I could only hold it for 8 seconds the pitch was all wobbly and cracking and my throat was sore for hours afterwards but the sound was unnatural enough that no natural female could make it.

all my life! :P
I don't know why but I've always made the effort to talk like a girl.
I could have been when my mother and friends and father ( D:  ) told me my voice was changing, and I, being shocked at what was happening to my body, subconsciously started speaking in higher tones.
Either way, I do still have some trouble hitting a high (HIGH) pitch like those Japanese singers, but I've just began attempting it. And by the way, for practicing high notes, Japanese singers are the best people to model your voice after, I suggest Discotheque by Nana Mizuki. Seriously, try singing in those high notes and your voice may feel tired after trying, but gradually it takes longer and longer to tire it out.
Good luck girl :D

Training your voice is much better than surgery/lasers.

I'm having trouble not being awkward while trying to work on my female voice. I don't really know what to talk about and it feels really weird haha. I guess I just have to get over it or see a professional X_X.

There is a good FREE resource here called "Finding Your Female Voice": http://www.genderlife.com/products-page/voicebook (http://www.genderlife.com/products-page/voicebook)

There is also a list of good practice sentences (so you don't have to figure out what to talk about) known as the Harvard Sentences, which is a collection of sample phrases used for standardized testing of telephone systems. They are from the IEEE Recommended Practices for Speech Quality Measurements in IEEE Transactions on Audio and Electroacoustics, vol 17, 227-46, 1969.

The sentences can be found here: http://www.cs.columbia.edu/~hgs/audio/harvard.html (http://www.cs.columbia.edu/~hgs/audio/harvard.html)

I'll just add that using a hand held voice recorder is invaluable, and it helped me a lot. This is covered in the free manual above.

That sounds perfectly believable. I really am a bad judge sometimes as I usually don't care much. I seem to see people differently than many others for some reason.

I've found that if I revert back to my English accent using a feminine voice I pass much more easliy than using my "normal" accent....after 1 month of practice. Strange, isn't it?

Perhaps I noticed something similar I developed a temporary American accent it didn't last long I suspect it was partly because most of the voice training resources I was using came from American authors.
