Title: WOW... It just dawned on me (shaving)
Post by: sarahm on May 26, 2010, 06:47:23 PM
I hate shaving, I feel it is degrading and inappropriate, but I have to do it anyway.

As I was spreading the shaving cream (I use a female shaving cream) I noticed something... I felt like a clown with that shaving cream on. I looked in the mirror and saw a girl with shaving cream on her face, and a look of... WTF?

Normally it's just, I hate shaving and will only do it if I have to... But now... It's the same level of comfortability as presenting as male in public (Or lack there of).

Anyone had a similar epiphany ?

LOL @ Ketsy

Yeah, it's the same here. Feels ridiculous. Time for laser...

And now you know why I use an electric razor with a pre-shave.  It get close enough because my hair is mostly grey.  Above the upper lip and the chin, it is still dark.  But Noxzema and a razor work well there after the shave.  and I have shaved for so many years I do it without a mirror.

Yeah, it is time you got laser! Laser would work great on you with your dark hair and light skin. I love laser. Yeah, shaving my face feels ridiculous to me too, but I just ask myself if I would rather have facial hair, or shave?

lol Ketsy! Nice find, and actually, within a reasonable margin of differences, that is how ridicules I looked.

I have been plucking my problem areas for over 5 months (Upper Lip, lower lip and chin) and started plucking the remainder of my neck and face about 3 - 4 weeks ago. It seems to be quite effective at reducing the number of hairs I have to shave, and increase the effectiveness of shaving, and most of all, it makes me feel more confident and able to pass in public better. ^_^

If I dont shave often enough (once every couple days, laser and electro is awesome) I will get a serious bout of dysphoria. So I try and keep it smooth as can be.
Now I can shave in under 3 minutes with just water if I want to do a quik job of it.

It's a little sad being blonde and not having laser as an option.

What I wouldn't give to have blonde hair...

I can totally relate to the "feeling like a clown" comment, which is why I prefer to use soap instead of shaving cream.

two sessions of laser un and shaving is definitely getting easier. If you can afford laser and it'll work do it...even if it means missing out on some luxuries. I even saw a bit of stubble fall out teh other day and i was very much like "take that you b*stard stubble!".

I agree. Almost all of my dark hairs are gone. Just like you I get to see the hairs fall out. Kinda neat.
I am also blond but I am on the darkest end of blond so I had enough color to my hair to kill the stuff that isnt grey or white.
Laser, just do it.

Shaving the face is awful  :-\  For the last few years I would just let it grow for a week or two at a time because I couldn't stand shaving.  I would, of course, avoid mirrors and try not to touch my face during that time.  Then I bought a buzzer.  While it didn't get everything, it was better than looking like a clown.  Now that HRT is starting to work I just can't stand the facial hair at all, so I stopped avoiding mirrors and started shaving every day.  It's a necessary evil I guess.  *nudges laser to work faster*

I got laser a few years back and there's a reason they say permanent hair reduction instead of removal.  Mine grew back most of the way, not all, but mostly.  I've been using an epilator/tweezers and they've been doing a pretty good job.  Granted my facial hair wasn't all that thick to begin with but it's gotten to the point where I only have to use the epilator about once per week.  Oddly enough though, I do like shaving.  I think I look ridiculous with shave gel on my face however I like the feel of a good shave; you know the one where your skin feels nice and tight?  Another advantage of shaving is that it exfoliates so hooray for nice skin.

I guess I'm kinda lucky... I never could grow a full beard... I only shave once a week and the rest of the time I pluck

But even the hairs I have to pluck bug me out

Although, I think I look kinda cute with shave cream on... I use girl shave cream also... Moisturizing Flirty Mango with olive butter and vitamin E  :icon_chick:

I remember at school a guy who couldn't stop talking about shaving. It was obviously the centre of his maleness. Even to a point of saying when there was a power cut that he had to shave in the dark
And here was I hating to shave my face, but happy to shave my legs and groin.

I'm trying to get laser/electrolysis but not finding a lot of help from the centers :'(

Anyone else had trouble?

Cindy

My beard used to depress me.   It was thick, dark and I didn't have a five o'clock shadow, it was more of a 10.00 am shadow.   Laser has done wonders.  All I am leftr with after six sessions is the odd bit of peach fuzz.   it's like when a teenage boy first notices he has to shave.   I have booked another session for the end of June, hopefully my last.   Shortly after the session, I hope to go full time!!!

My facial hair is so light that the electrologist has to turn out the lights in the room, zoom in with the spotlight thingy and view the hairs from the side! It may be nice to not have a 5 o clock shadow but getting rid of it is more of a pain.

tell me about it! I paid for 8 sessions of laser and it was a total waste of money. Even the few darker ones grew back.  :-\
