Bitter and Beaten

Two weeks ago, my colleague and I were called into a meeting with my manager and her manager. They then informed us that there was a proposal to disestablish one of our positions - which meant that one of us would be out of a job.
My heart sank upon hearing this news. You see, my colleague is a heterosexual cisgender male. His wife is also pregnant and unemployed. I'm a bisexual transgender woman.
