Title: Hair styles
Post by: MRH on June 10, 2010, 05:03:17 PM
One thing that gives me a way is my hair. Its quite long and naturally very straight so people can tell i'm a woman. Now I wanna get my hair cut but I dont want anything too drastic. If I go really short it may be a shock to some people plus with my face shape I think it will make me look a little bit like a lesbian. Not got a problem with that its just....I like men lol so I dont wanna give people the wrong impression. I saw this hair do and thought "Wow....loving it."

so i'd really like to get that done but I feel a bit nervous asking a hair dresser to do it. They'll be very confused as to way i've asked for a blokes hair do. The person I usually go to is my boyfriends cousin as she will do my hair for £5 which is very cheap but then she may gossip to my boyfriends family and they aren't the type to keep quiet. Should I maybe come out to people around me first before I go straight into changing my hair? Or do you think I should just bite the bullet and go for it despite what people say? (and trust me the people I know TALK)

Are you out to your boyfriend?  Would it be possible to tell her it's for a play, or on a dare?  Or you could tell her it's because it's summer and you're wanting it shorter, and you just like the way that hair looks?

I can't help you too much, I'm in a similar situation...

I think that hairdo sounds like a fantastic idea for you~

Also, it's not like it's a haircut that's absolutely, positively reserved only for boys (in fact, most guy haircuts could potentially work on a woman without getting too many weird looks, just as most guy clothes could), so I wouldn't worry too much about people's reactions. Also, if you're really worried about potential gossip, you can probably divert the possibility by making an offhanded, witty comment about how you knew you wanted a haircut like this, but the best example you could find online ended up being modeled by a guy-- whoops! At which point any laughter that may entail will be with you, not at you.

Yeah i'm out to my boyfriend and he's fine with it. Its just his family bitch so much that I know everytime I see them they'll be gossiping behind my back. Plus my mum would probably think it was stupid. She doesnt know yet so I may have to come out to her first.

I could go to another hair dresser but I dont like spending a lot of money. Why spend £20+ when I can get it for £5?

A very good question. Mine is short for now, though I would absolutely love shoulder length or longer.

There are some very nice short ladies cuts that work for everyone.

Make your choice and don't let anyone tell you it's wrong. You know what is right for you.

That might be a good haircut.

I'm getting a haircut that won't be shorter than my chin, but it'll be layered in a way so I can try and look a bit more androgynous.

Many "short" haircuts can look good on gals and guys equally.

You know somthing, since you want a hairstyle to suit both looks, why don't you think about short, around the ears?

This will pass really well in boy mode and girls look really cute.

My sister got her hair all cut off recently because she had died it too much and she wanted to start over fresh and she gave my mom pictures of Mandy Moore with this haircut

So maybe you could use this picture or pictures of females with shorter hair or just tell her you want your hair a certain length@

That hair is pretty good. Im not too sure how it would look on me though.
I told my mum that I wanted my hair cutting but it was on a male. She told me not to get a male hair cut but I promised that it could work on females and males. I showed her and she seemed pretty ok with it. I may not get it as short at first just to be sure.

I don't really consider that length masculine or feminine really. It goes both ways, it's all about how you style it. So if you want to look like a boy just leave it messy but if you want to look like a girl, style it a little bit. haha. Make sure you show us results after though! =D

You could always try cutting your hair yourself, I did it for awhile with mixed results. Even if it doesn't turn out quite right it may give you an idea of what you want, then off to the hairdresser to fix it haha. I have a lot of anxiety still when I get my hair cut, I never outright say I want to look girlish and it's very hard.

I considered cutting it myself but im incredibly clumsy lol and my mum would go mental. I'd let my boyfriend do it as he cuts his own hair but once he cut the biggest chunk out of the back his hair so I dont really trust him lol.

Oh well I hope you figure it out, your mostly going to come to the hairstyle you like by getting a lot of bad haircuts first, more like a process of elimination. Hair grows I think about an inch or so a month, and if your going for short you could probably get a new hair cut every month or two, so over two years you may get 20 hair cuts in. Have you ever consider'd a pony tail? Like the very manly flavor'd kind? Even when I had my hair long it made me look a hell of a lot more boyish haha.

Tip for ponytails:  Men tend to wear theirs low around the top of the neck.  Girls can wear them anywhere but a bouncy, high-up ponytail looks especially feminine.

I just cut all mine off myself and hoped for the best, it works well for me I like to think (growing it out a bit now though, looks a huge mess)

Personally I think as short as it looks in your avatar would suit you, assuming that's you in your avatar. The ashton style is good for an inbetween style if you daren't cut it all off in one go.

Ashton's hairstyle could work for you. Hairstyles like his look good on both females and males. I have a similar hairstyle, and a lot people look at me as a 'skater boy', haha~ I say, go for it!
