Title: Starting Progesterone! Let's see if it really helps?
Post by: Princess_Jasmine on June 10, 2010, 11:13:06 PM
Hey girls I just wanted to let everyone know that I am starting prometrium (bioidentical progesterone which is supposedly the best) and I am going to update you all as to whether progesterone really makes a difference or not. I haven't seen anyone actually document their experience with it and the changes it caused, so I would just like to do this for you all who are not on progesterone and are considering whether or not you should add it to your hormone regimen.

My background vital stats:
I have been on estradiol + spironolactone for 9 months 3 weeks. I am 20 years old, 5'6", thin, and so far have a decent A cup. My mother and sister both have very large breasts for their frames (D and DD cups) which makes me hope that I will at least end up with a full B cup.  My areolas are small (between the size of a nickel and quarter) and I would say the actual nipple part looks like the size of a pencil eraser that pops out. From what I have been told by my doctors, the progesterone should increase breast and nipple/areola growth. I have also been instructed that cycling the progesterone yields the best results so starting in the middle of my cycle I will be taking progesterone for 12 days at night with my estradiol+spiro under the tongue. I also drink a gallon of water a day which I seriously recommend to everybody who wants better results with hormones since more fluid helps the hormones circulate better in your system. I also take a multivitamin daily.

I will let you all know when I see differences or effects of the progesterone take place! Okay, let the boobs (hopefully) begin! ;)

I have nothing but good things to say about prometrium. When it was added to my regime my breast got fuller it's good stuff. I miss being on it, I had to stop for surgery.

WEEK 1 UPDATE:

Okay so it has been exactly one week since I began prometrium (bioidentical progesterone) and there HAVE been some changes. I did notice immediately once I took the pill (sublingually / under the tongue) my stomach area felt so so calm and peaceful as if I just got a massage. I have anxiety and so the progesterone immediately calmed me down. The next couple of days I noticed that I didnt have much anxiety anymore but instead I started to feel depressed. The depression lasted only about 4 days after I started the progesterone and now is subsiding. Emotionally, the progesterone has overall calmed me down and I havent felt anymore horny than I usually am lol because I do know some people say it increases their sex drive.

As far as physically, yes people I have started to feel tension in my breasts. It feels like a growth spurt is coming on because I can compare it to the last time there was that growth tension in my boobs but so far no major actual changes you can see. My nipples became a little swollen but not any extra growth yet. My breast looks very slightly fuller than before but it has of course only been one week so not much could have happened. Okay thats it for now Ill return next week with a new update!

:)

I never heard of people taking prometrium sublingually ???. what's the diffrence by taking it that way VS swallowing it? I didn't even know you could take it under the tongue.

Sublingually will bypass the liver.  Swallowing it, it does a first pass thru the liver.  It can hurt the liver.

Prometium is supplied in gel capsules

You do NOT take it sublingual.

That is for estrogen only, and it is used to stop the estrogen from being removed form the blood stream by the liver. That is not a problem with progesterone.

Nice! I started P about a month ago myself...I have noticed some kind of growth. I've been on E and Spiro for almost 7mo now and I'm still looking at an AA-A cup.

So impatient for more! hehe

Hey do you think that anything negative will happen if I take it sublingually? Is it more beneficial to swallow with water then?

Not taking progesterone is pretty much asking to not develop, in my opinion. I've settled on taking it 12 days/month now and my breast growth and tenderness, which had stopped in the months that I stopped P, has returned. They're definitely growing and changing shape. I have not noticed a difference with taking a higher dose x1/day than half dose x2 day, and the higher doses are cheaper.

I'm starting progesterone myself as soon as my previous refill of hormones runs out.  I was prescribed medroxyprogesterone instead of micronized, and apparently my doc doesn't want me to cycle it either.  Think I should call them up and see if they'll change it to micronized?  Does it even matter?

Medroxyprogesterone can have some nasty side effects for some people. My sister being one of them.

I'm on a certain dosage of micronized progesterone (prometrium) and I know others that are on double the dose....trying to figure out when and how I'll know I should jump to that new dosage. Going to go see the doc in August probably....do the usual bloodwork

I have used it in the past but I could not say whether or not it has made a difference.  But it is low cost and Hey Why Not.  ;D

o_o ... I've read up on it a little, but didn't see any mention of horrible side effects except for depression.  What happened with your sister?

SECOND CYCLE UPDATE:

Okay I just want you all to know that I am going to do this post in cycles. I take progesterone for 10 days a month, so in other words, every month will be a new post to show if anything new happened in that 10 day cycle for that month.

So today is the end of my 2nd 10 day cycle, and so far taking progesterone, the major changes I have noticed all are mood changes. It takes away alot of anxiety and replaces it with a calm/almost depressing feeling; however, the slight depression feeling only lasts the first few days of the cycle. I definitely feel something going on in my breasts but as far as seeing breast growth, that is much more hard to notice since everything happens so slowly. However, I have noticed my breasts are slightly fuller and rounder than they used to be, which leads me to believe the progesterone is working. I do want to point out however that these are all very subtle effects and I am sure with time more will happen, but for now just 2 cycles in, things are still moving slowly. I haven't gained any weight since being on the progesterone in case anyone was wondering about that. Thats all for now!

nice yah I did notice a change in stress level. It went down significantly. But I'm also not cycling yet. Probably in a few years.

There were quite a few things but mainly she went a little bit crazy. There are some reports of depression and psychosis. Her last shot was over a year ago and she said she has just started to feel normal again. I guess it's not extremely common but it happens to some. Weight gain is the most common. A nurse friend of mine said alot of girls gain 20 lbs or more. Now the doses I'm sure are a bit different and transgirls don't have a uterus but yeah...Not to be confused with bio-identical progesterone of course which carries much less risk. I hope to start taking Prometrium soon after my next doc visit.
