Title: Medicare
Post by: K8 on June 14, 2010, 03:16:02 PM
I had GRS in Trinidad, Colorado on April 23.  On April 29 I changed my gender at the Trinidad Social Security office.  The office did not know if I would get a new Medicare card automatically, so I waited until May 27 to apply on-line for a new Medicare card.  The card arrived June 14, indicating I am male.

I called Medicare.  They said that Social Security had to update their records.  I called Social Security.  They said the change had been made in my records but not on my benefits.  (What's the difference?  I didn't ask.)  They changed my gender on my benefits and said I would receive a new Medicare card in four weeks.

I realize that I may be the only one on Susan's receiving Medicare benefits, but if you are receiving Medicare be forewarned: Social Security has to change your gender on their records and for your benefits.

Usually when you change your name or gender they should of asked do you want to change it on your benefits too. Getting it changed with Medicaid is also tricky too.
