I was just curious how many of you were front sleepers before beginning HRT? How long did it take before you had to change? How difficult was it to adjust?
Front side? I imagine you're talking about belly sleepers. haha. I was, and still am an avid belly sleeper. Haha. Just gotta adjust somethings to get comfortable now, though :p
xoxo
i didn't know that this was common among ts , i've always been and still am a front sleeper
i try to change it sometimes but , it's still how i can get to sleep mostly
*or.. cuddling (if that's an option)or hugging a pillow if i want to sleep on my side
Interesting question...
Before SRS I always slept on one side in the fetal position.
After SRS I can and do sleep in any position. I would say fetal is still the most frequent but quite often these days I sleep on my back and very occasionally I will sleep on my tummy.
Not sure what any of that means (if anything) but I'm sure a psychologist could tell me.
Due to problems with my neck and back I tend to wake up and change positions every couple hours :P
So is this somthing commen in ts?
I have always been sleeping on my belly from as long as I can remember.

I think what the Jessica is asking is how someone dealt when breasts start growing, putting pressure on them can hurt. When they first started coming in for me, I bumped them into something, ouch not pleasant .
Anyways I still sleep on my front still, just a bit harder to find the right spot ;)
The generality is that men sleep on their stomachs. women seem to prefer their side or fetal type positions. Men also seem stretch out more than women who curl up. I don't know it that has to do with just breasts tho cause I sleep on my stomach quite often though I do curl up with a pillow or 'friend' at times.
I do and have always switched positions during the night. Front, back, side in a fetal position too.
As far as the sore breast, and they are at times, I just fluff up a couple of pillows and then they don't bother me.

I've almost always slept on my side in the fetal position. So nothings changed since I've been taking phyto estrogens.
I find it kinda hilarious how some people find things that are common in a small sample size of number of ts and assume it is common across the board.
I was a side sleeper, never a belly or back sleeper. Now, I continue to be a side sleeper and sometimes a back sleeper, but still not a belly sleeper.
I sleep ether on my back or my left side. Tummy sleeping has been out of the question since about 6 months into HRT. Go figure. ::)
I always thought most guys slept on their backs. ::)
I used to sleep on my stomach the most with a small bit of side sleeping. I changed later before hrt to just about everything with my stomach being the main choice. Whatever was comfortable you know? Now? I never sleep on my stomach anymore. Just can't get comfortable that way and now I tend to do more side hugging something or more fetal.
I always slept on my side or tummy, very rarely on my back. Mainly on my tummy.
My breasts are not so big but they are a little uncomfortable to sleep on, so I don't sleep on my front so much, but I still do occasionally. I usually tuck my arms under my pillow which seems to take pressure off my chest.
I curl up when it is cold, stretch out when it is hot.
Not MTF, but hey, I went through female puberty and developed a chest.
Used to sleep on my side, since then I've been sleeping on my stomach. They don't get in the way.
I tend to sleep in the fetal position. Though I start on my back and move around alot. Multiple pillows prevent any major sleep related injuries from occurring.
I am getting ready to fall asleep soon...I'll leave the computer on and have my cat post updates. ;D

My cat used to just love chatting when I was trying to have a conversation online. He couldn't spell sadly.

Mine does the same. When I've been on the computer too long she even stands on the power button and turns it off.
I know the sampling size is small but hey it's a laugh.
I have 'always' slept with my right side to the mattress. It's about the only position I can get to sleep and relax in. I wake up anywhere. I even woken up upside down in the bed. And NO I wasn't drinking or smoking stuff.
But I also like to read in bed and I can only ever read when on my back. I'm hopeless at eating in bed; well eating food that is :embarrassed: Breakfast in bed doesn't work for me. But I love a cup of tea in bed in the morning. I make one in the morning and creep back to bed pretending it isn't time to get up. As soon as they make the tea making robot I'm for it. There use to be alarm clocks that made a cup of tea, but I haven't seen them for eons.
Yep, off thread again.

always been a foetal sleeper.
I used to be a belly sleeper until about 2 or 3 months on HRT, then it was too painful to do. Now sleep on my side or may back. It only took a couple times rolling onto my stomach, feeling stabbing pain from my nipples for me to change from being a belly sleeper. A little negative(pain) reinforcement certainly helped the change in sleep behavior.
On another note, I certainly sleep a lot better since I came out and began transition. Used to have horrid times falling asleep, and actually never looked forward to going to bed. I was also always exhausted when I woke up. Now, I get in bed, fall right asleep, get about 7 hours, wake up totally refreshed and ready to tackle the day.
I fall asleep on my back and wake up on my back. When I shift around, I prefer my right side because it puts me facing my bedroom door. I learned recently that unless I'm absolutely fatigued or half-asleep, I'm very uncomfortable having my back to the door. For whatever reason the dark, even alone in my own house, has made me increasingly anxious over the last year.
Sleeping on my stomach doesn't happen unless I'm napping; having my head turned one direction while my body lies flat isn't comfortable for me.
Pardon my while I laugh... A lot. I saw the title and knew exactly where this was going.
Yes, I slept on my belly all the time. But since my boobs started growing, it hurts. So I've been favoring my side more, or I get into this awkward position where I take the pressure off my chest by slightly propping myself up on my arms.
I don't necessarily do that intentionally, it's just a position I get into while I sleep.
It's probably kind of cheating that I sleep on my side, considering I do it to hug my plushie. I mean I guess I used to sleep on my stomach more, but at the same time I'd also curl up and cocoon myself in blankets, which I still kind of do. To be honest, I tend to sleep all over the place in alsorts of positions, and I'm horrible to share a bed with,
I still am a stomach sleeper but I move around a lot in my sleep so. . . Just have to find the right position for it to be comfortable. . . but i mean that could be said of all sleeping positions :p
i never realised there were so many front sleepers!
apart from sharing bedrooms with brothers whe little I've not spent much time in bed with anyone so I had no idea that it was possible to sleep on your front.
Here was something weird I found about sleeping while transitioning. The longer I was on HRT and while losing muscle tone in my chest, the more difficult it was to sleep purely on my side. I would wake up with sore shoulders, which tended to collapse inwards without the chest muscles to support them.
We now sleep on an old fashioned water bed, and I find that I am able to sleep in many positions, including on my back or tummy. The tummy isn't that bad on my boobs, especially with a pillow. The water mattress forms around me and the girls! :)
Mostly I like to have my partner around to snuggle up with!

Ah HA!
Snap in every aspect. Alison and I also have a waterbed too. I guess that explains everything.
I have a Sleep Number bed.
Maybe that is why I have no problems with position.
Jillieann
I think I sleep half on my side half on my belly with my face smooshed into a pillow. At least that's how I wake up. And I need to be able to stick my feet out cos I get hot feet haha.
hard to afford during transition, but buy a less ->-bleeped-<-ty bed if laying on your stomach hurts your breasts. Laying on the floor hurt my breasts, and still does sometimes depending on how bad the carpet is, but seriously, a good bed will reduce your pain, improve your sleep, your happiness, and not hurt your breasts to sleep on (at least, for most people.)
I was a stomach sleeper, now side or stomach sleeper. i have scoliosis, so it messes lots of things up...especially curling up with someone to fall asleep with :(
I sprawl all over the bed like a starfish. Sometimes I do it on my front, sometimes on my back. My chest never bothered me, only thing that bothers me with front sleeping is the way the pillow bends my neck, but if I sprawl "just so" (partly on my side with one leg lifted up and the other kicked out) that problem is solved. That one takes up the entire queen bed though, so I usually fall asleep on my back (which takes up marginally less space) and then roll over on my front at some point during the night.
I sleep on my belly. Its the only way I can get to sleep without getting a headache.
I'm a non-back schleper and always have been, pre- and during HRT. My boobs aren't as sensitive as they used to be when first taking hormones. They are still sensitive, but it doesn't really hurt to squish them a little here and there.

Not sure what any of that means (if anything) but I'm sure a psychologist could tell me.
Why do we sleep on our sides in a foetal position? I most certainly do not need a psychologist to tell me why! Simple, its just a case of simple stability. Do this little experiment. Take a note in your local currency, ensure its straight and try and stand it upright along the longest side vertically (yes edge wise). No go huh? Now fold the note in half so as to form a ninety degree angle and now try and stand the note on its edge. Simple huh?
The foetal position is also used in first aid recovery of victims.
Oh by the way I sleep on my sides and back. I used to be able to sleep in all positions but twenty odd years ago I stopped sleeping on my tummy. I wonder why?
Kind regards
Sarah B
Since I broke shattered an elbow, I tend to fall asleep on my side, but I do move around a lot in my sleep. Especially if kitty is hogging the foot of the bed.
I have and likely will always be a side sleeper...I usually feel more comfortable sleeping on my right side though.
I used to always sleep on my front side, now I have had to adjust my sleeping habits to be on a side, or on my back, it hurts just too much to sleep on my front with Breast Budding.
I fixed it for you, Sara. ;D

I go along with that!
But of course would any sleep scientist take us seriously?
I have always been a stomach sleeper. When I started sleeping with my forms I slept on my back but ever since I didn't need my forms I end up on my stomach again. It's not bad....then again I only have an AA cup still.
I sleep on my side most of the time, though I will occasionally wake up on my back.
Funny - after my recent move I got my own bed/room (tatami & shikibuton). I most definitely noticed my hips and thighs are not the same as they were a few years ago. The bed is pretty firm so I usually lay on my back until sheepy time then roll on my side to pass out.
Add: Oh, I didn't sleep on my tummy much after I hit my late teens.
