The Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) has published detailed guidance to help public service providers and public sector employers prepare for the Gender Equality Duty (GED), which comes into force in April 2007.
The GED will require public authorities to promote gender equality. Instead of depending on individuals making complaints about sex discrimination the duty places legal responsibility on public authorities to demonstrate that they treat men and women fairly.
