Title: Free Sex Changes in Iran?
Post by: Tanya1 on June 29, 2010, 11:37:26 PM
How would one go about attaining it?

Pretend to be gay? So this way the government gives you two choices. 1) Die 2) Get a sex change.

Do you think they would extend this for non-citizens?

Seems like they also have no psychological screening in Iran for eligibility for the sex change.

I heard they offer loans for this in Iran but some sources say it's free from the government. One reason being to end homosexuality.

Comments?

Hmm, I suppose that I'm reasonably lucky here in the U.K as we do at least have the option of SRS as part of the NHS, but from what I have read about surgery in Iran, it could be described as crude at best.

Please don't jack the thread with forum wars. :)

I think i heard their surgery procedures aren't that modern or effective?

They use the colon I believe.

Maybe if you get a visa or green card - they might pay for it?

This is a serious risk you're willing to undertake. Iran doesn't grant any rights to aliens of the state, legal or illegal. You're better off finding 2 jobs and paying your way through it. Iran would probably put you to death before they let an American, or European, have a GRS at their cost.

I predict they'd just deport you.  Saudi Arabia tortures and executes its trangendered citizens, but they deport transgendered foreigners and ban them from returning.  Seems like Iran and others would likely deport and ban as well.

I can guarantee that no clitoris would be created and sexual sensation would be nil - in Islam, women are not supposed to enjoy sex.

From what I have read, this is the case, also it is very rare that any hormone therapy is given. Put to one side any difficulties that anyone may have in the rest of the world with being able to afford SRS, this is a barbaric practice that more often than not is carried out on non trans people. I suppose it is better than in some countries, at least the trans women of Iran do get what they need (kind of), but for the many gay men who get pressurised into it, it is nothing less than complete emasculation, and lets face it, in general gay guys love their man bits so it is hardly something to be spoken about in terms of 'lucky Iranians'.

Fatwas allowing GRS have been issued in a number of Isamic countries,  including Iran, Egypt, Jordan,
Morocco, and as stated GRS is routinely performed in Lebanon.

A fatwa is a legal opinion or ruling issued by an Islamic scholar, judge or mufti. It will be based upon the
Qur'an, Sunnah and Islamic Shari'ah. The Shari'ah is the revealed and the canonical laws of the religion
of Islam.

It is should be pointed out that there are indeed transsexuals in the Muslim world. The arabic word for
transsexual is "mukhannath", (Arabicمخنثون ") and their existence has been reported in the Qu'aran.

Iran actually is second behind Thailand in the number of re-assignment surgeries that are performed.

But I emphatically agree that no one should be forced to have surgery against their will.

I'd imagine they'd just go: So.. You're homosexual... And you come here to get a sex change.. Huh?
Right.. Your problem; byebye.
And then probably laugh behind your back.

They wouldn't have you put down, because.. You're not from Iran. They wouldn't give you the HRT and SRS, either, because.. You're no Irani. So even if you've got a green card, they'd probably just go: Your problem; not ours.

1.  Currently, and for the foreseeable future, travel to Iran is under a warning, which basically means that once you come back the government is going to take a keen interest in what you do.

2.  For US citizens, there is no embassy in Iran, if you get into a problem there, you're really ->-bleeped-<-ed in ways that unless you've been trapped overseas w/o an embassy, you don't even begin to realize.

Islam is against sex changes for non-transsexuals.  The fatwa in Iran was issued by the Ayatollah, so it's considered nearly unquestionable.  It's ONLY for transsexuals, and even then the medical community is sometimes at odds with the police, who will occasionally arrest TSs living full-time and charge them with homosexuality.  If you come out as gay in Iran, you might want to bring your own rope -- it's at their discretion whether to off you.

Iran is pretty much a closed state anyway, and as Tekla stated, you will be grilled mercilessly once (if) you get back.

People that are forced into SRS in Iran are forced by situation only.  If someone says "I'm gay" their official options aren't "Die or SRS" -- it's just "Die."  People make an active choice to either be celebate, flee, or have SRS.  Having SRS if you aren't trans means perpetrating a major medical fraud and remaining undetected forever.

And aside from all this, you'd still have an arduous, almost Jorgensen-esque process with a crappy outcome.

I know this is all just an interesting discussion, but for anyone who might ever consider it -- don't do it.
