A SEX-SWAP hospital worker told last night how she battered her manager after he allegedly called her "a freak".

Helen Moran, 55 - who used to be a roofer called Tony - ended up in a furious brawl with manager Tariq Rehman after the jibe.

The pair fought in a corridor at Birmingham Women's Hospital before storming out to the car park. Police were called and Helen was arrested.

If this story is true, and coming from the Sun, that's a bit of a gamble, then it sadly reflects the state of managers in so much of the NHS today.

The various employment protection laws are treated as a template for harrissment by the NHS. Employment contracts are so open, thay allow manages to impose almost any conditions. Managers seem to see it as a badge of their macho authority to take down some employees. When they do make mistakes, such as the black midwife in Southampton who was told she couldn't attend to white babies, the NHS tends to quickly apologise. But little is ever done.

The likely outcome of this will be the manager will be moved and Helen will be demoted to a point where it is not worth her turning up for work.
