Title: I found a lump near my junk. Should I worry?
Post by: zombiesarepeaceful on July 06, 2010, 02:05:31 PM
I found a lump near my dick. Above it, before the genitals begin. It's the size of a small dry pea and it's hard as a rock. It doesn't move under my skin. I don't want to get this checked out for obvious reasons. I hate to acknowledge that my genitals exist whatsoever.

Question is, are hard lumps usually a good or bad thing? I thought fatty deposits that are benign are usually softer and move under the skin? Anyone else get something like this? I really, really don't want to have to mention this to my doctor. I'm eyeing it to see if it gets bigger. Cancer does run in my family. That's why it worries me. I keep telling myself it's nothing though.

Also, would my doctor knowing of this give reason for him to take me off T? To be honest that's my biggest fear. As I posted before I'm having some heart palpitations that are being checked out on the 23rd but my doctor knows about those and didn't tell me to change my T dose yet...so I'm confident that he knows that stopping T would be more of a damage than a help to me. Honestly even if I'm having heart problems and they are cause of T, I'd rather stay on T and take the risks and live a shorter life rather than die without T in my veins.

Your hormone dosage can be restored, if interrupted.  Act immediately.

Is it painful?  I've gotten lots of zits in that area that start out as lumps the size of peas. Eventually they get a head and pop.  I think it's normal in that area to get them.  Also sometimes you can get little infections in the hair follicles.  Most times they are no big deal.

It's not painful at all. A friend of mine said he gets those sometimes, from his packer rubbing against his skin and stuff and that he can pop them. I'm gonna see if it's popable when I go home.

Sometimes takes a few days before they pop.  I had one about a week ago and was concerned that it would be an issue with surgery.  Fortunately it went away in time.

I've had pimples like that, they feel like unmovable, hard pea-sized lumps.  But they usually hurt after a while.

I've got the same kind of thing but they're not zits, they've been there a few years.  I know I should get it checked out but...don't have the courage yet to face the exam.

herpes? O.o I don't have any stds...

I tried to pop it but it's too far under the surface. Guess I'll wait and see what happens. I'm not gonna worry about it right now cause I can't bear to acknowledge that part of my body. I doubt it's anything really harmful.

You don't have to have sex to pick up herpes.  But anything that wasn't there before, but is there now, is potentially harmful.

To your knowledge. Remember that some STDs don't have any warning signs.
As for herpes, the virus is the same as that of coldsores. If you've received oral sex for anyone with a coldsore, you may very well have herpes.

When thinking about how is herpes spread, remember that there are two main types of the disease. Type 1, known as HSV-1, is most commonly the cause of the oral version, often called fever blisters or cold sores. Type 2, known as HSV-2 is the main cause of genital herpes. Both oral and genital are spread in similar ways and both are very contagious.

It is important to keep in mind that the spread of herpes happens very easily. Because the virus is transmitted through physical contact, any skin to skin contact can potentially be an opportunity to pass on the virus.

Herpes stays in the body for life, even though the symptoms may come and go. When the symptoms are present, it is called a "herpes outbreak". Many people make the mistake of assuming they cannot pass the virus on to their partner if they are not experiencing an outbreak. However, this is not the case. The virus is still there even if the person who has it is not exhibiting any symptoms.

Listen dude, once your permanent teeth come in and puberty has come and gone, IT IS NEVER GOOD - IF NOT BAD, IF NOT VERY BAD - TO FIND SOMETHING IN OR ON YOUR BODY TODAY THAT WAS NOT THERE YESTERDAY.

THERE IS NOTHING, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING (excepting pregnancy, and even that's not 100% as we all know), good about that at all.  Have someone look at it and hope its something like a cyst rather than a viral deal.

And I've followed your odyssey, and I know you've been homeless, doing the couch surfing deal, little to no money, and that kind of life, as I know I did it for a while, is a lot less sanitary in a lot of ways.  Nor, I'm sure, are you eating right, which leaves your body very vulnerable.  Second, you work at a nightclub, a gay nightclub.  40 years in clubs and I can say that nightclubs are not exactly setting the standards for sanitation.  And sometimes, particularly those clubs at the margins, there are no standards for sanitation at all.  (That's why Dr. Kat never - EVER - orders anything but a bottle of Bud and at that I want to see him/her open the cap.  Because Dr. Kat has been in marginal nightclubs (more than once) after most of the lights are turned off, and then back on, and it's way more than kinda gross.  And that's before I did show and club janitorial and maintenance work at some big clubs.)  And I know that drag shows tend to the more sketch clubs and not the premier ones, so...  It may well be possible to have caught something without having 'done' anything, but just by contact in those general circumstances.

I'm sure the take of herpes is going to worry him some more. But leave it for a while, see how it develops (and I mean like a few days). If it won't pop or if it's not a zit or w/e, you should really go check that out. Better to be safe right?

Worrying him is good, he needs to get it checked out. Leaving it for a while is not the answer. If there is something wrong, it's only going to get worse. Where is the line between a little while and too long?

You are much more logical than I am Ryan. I applaud you for that. Sure worrying him might motivate him but what if it turns out it isn't any STD or anything of that sort in the end? I'm just saying.

And I realized that it has been 'left' there since he discovered. That's long enough. So good point.  :)

If it's nothing, then that's great. Peace of mind will be his reward.

As for being worried about going to get it checked out; I've got a few friends who are doctors and they couldn't care less about what's in your pants. People are self conscious because their body is so personal to them, but to a doctor it's just one of god knows how many genitals they see each day.

Herpes happens at the skins surface, not way beneath and it isn't hard and would cause pain. It could be a cyst though. I have one on my rib beneath the skin, its just a small, round, non growing, painless mass that my doctor said don't worry. But if it happens down there you probably want to get it checked out and removed if it doesn't go away on its own.

Tekla....I didn't know you stalk me that much o_o

Thanks for the input. I don't know what I'm doing yet. Yeah, I'm stubborn. And although I'm just another patient to a doctor, I don't want some guy or girl looking at my junk that isn't congruent with my identity. I want to throw up on my junk half the time and lately it's really bad. If it gets any bigger I guess I'll have no choice though.

I've gotten something like that. It happens, not very often, when I shave and get an ingrown hair and the hair follicle gets infected. It feels like a little ball or something in there.

it could be a Sebaceous cyst.. I heard somewhere that 'excessive' testosterone or swollen hair follicles can cause them.. They're pretty much exactly what you're describing.

Try putting heat on it for a few minutes a day for a week or so, that can help it 'dissolve'.

If not then, yeah, probably get it checked.

Well the one I was speaking of went away. But at the base of alot of my hair follicles there's more of these little hard spots and I'm pretty sure they're from the hair follicles growing and expanding...I'll try not to be too TMI here so don't read if you don't want to know:

[NSFW] Where I had normal one hair follicles pre-T, now on my arms and legs and armpits and anywhere there is hair including my junk, there are multiple hairs coming out of the same follicle. I'm guessing this sudden increase in hair would cause this [/NSFW]

I had a problem like this once. It ended up being an inflamed sweat gland. When you're on T it makes your glands produce more sweat and sometimes they become blocked. The Dr. said the best thing to do is to steep a tea bag in hot water and apply for 10 mins a day. Otherwise it will eventually go away on its own.
