Title: What gender are you in your dreams?
Post by: Zachariah on July 18, 2010, 02:41:46 PM
Just like the topic says...what gender are you when you sleep? (By the way, sorry if this is not the right forum for this...)

Sometimes it bothers me because when I dream, I usually am a girl in my dreams. Well, I mean...I'm basically myself as I am. But I take on more feminine roles. It bothers me.

So, what about you all? How do you feel about it?

Mostly genderless. If I am gendered in a dream ussualy I am in transition in the androgyne state, and rarely male or female. When I have male dreams even if it is a good dream it is very disturbing and uncomfortable. When I am female even if it is a scary dream I am pretty mellow and good to go.

I'm normally male in my dreams, though I've had a couple where I'm female.  The female dreams were more confusing but the male dreams are always "horrible" but I love them so much.

I'm normally me in my dreams so female bodied but with a male gender. Occasionally i'm male bodied though, hate those dreams because waking up and realising that I have a female body is depressing.

I used to appear as my stable, male self until I twigged and started accepting who I am - now I appear as a vague blur, or sometimes not at all, which has only just struck me as odd. I've typically always dreamt in the third person, but now it's as though I'm being directed not to see myself.

I suppose it's only natural. I have no idea how I'm going to turn out, just as I could not picture myself as a cisgender man of 20 years back when I was 10; so me noggin's given up on details for now. ;)

I've been both male and female. /shrug

Most of the time though gender doesn't come into play in my dream.

I've got all sorts of points of view in dreams.. Personal, third person, overview, camera..
And to be honest: Whenever I do dream as a 'me,' I'm usually female. Only very rarely male.

Sometimes I have the most vivid dreams of being fully female it seems so real I can feel it, almost like a past life memory

Some start as male, then change to female. It's very distict when it happens. Sometimes just male, maybe 30-40% of the time. The rest female. Never female changing to male. I only remember about 50% of them.
I almost always wake up as female, at least in that half dream state.
Sometimes it sticks all the way to getting a cup of coffee. Then it just slides into the usual 60-40 female/male.

virtually always male - damnit! - at least in the ones where I'm aware of a gender.

But on the other hand, I tend to have a very high percentage of those dreams where you are in a very embarrassing or awkward position  (at school in your underwear for instance) so I always took that as a metaphor for feeling like my appearance was irreparably wrong.

On the other hand, all i remember lately about my dreams is when i have to go pee so bad that i dream about it until it wakes me up. It's got to be the suckiest dream in existence to spend what seems like hours looking for a place to relieve yourself and never finding it or never getting done.

whatever happened to dreaming about getting laid or something?

I rarely remember dreams, but I have actually remembered several recently and they have all had a similar theme, which had me, female, visiting close acquaintances from my past that I've lost track of one way or another, and just explaining all I've been through with this gender situation.  Each dream had me visiting a different person.

Weird..

Obviously my subconscious is working through something there.  It may be time for me to start doing this IRL, I dunno.

since of last month I've been in my transition state in my dreams as in my voice is now different in them and I have my boobs.

it was a big thing for me :)

Other than that sometimes I'm further along in my transition ie full-time and the dreams are set "20 minutes into the future"

You know how in a first-person shooter, you sometimes catch a glimpse of your combat boots if you look down, or else a bit of boobage, but mostly you're just hell-bent on KILLING?
Yeah, I guess that about covers it.  ;D

To be honest, I have absolutely no clue what gender I am in my dreams because I never see myself in my dreams! o.O In my dreams, I see everything through my eyes, yet my body doesn't exist. It's so weird...

Female...or it's a nightmare where I'm male and I can never change...

I don't remember a lot of dreams, but I have the fleeting feeling of remembering myself being male in most of the ones where I'm not aware of being trans.

I have a lot of detransition nightmares where my hair falls out, or my beard grows back, or I get outed in some horrible way. In those dreams, I am of course, myself.

Last night I had a very long dream where I was a little girl on the run from the law, constantly evading everything while stealing what i needed to get around. That was amusing.

When I dream I am either wearing items of female
clothing as a male or actually female.

The interesting thing is that when male, I am almost
always at work, with people I know, and totally
accepted, even when I feel uneasy or embarassed.

Dreaming as a woman usually finds me in a fantasy
oriental setting in Japanese dress.

Regularly I am male in my dreams, but if it is "convenient for the plot" of my dream, I am sometimes female.

I seem to be genderless in my dreams.

Even in dreams that are very sexual in nature I don't quite remember if I even had genitals...

Which is strange because in real life I would prefer to have both gendered genitalia, definitely not none.

I've only consiously been absolutely male in one dream. The rest have had gender to be so unimportant that I never paid attention. But I think I've been female or just me in most of my dreams.

Weird dream last night:  I was stealth MtF in the dream and everything went fine, and then right at the end I was stealth FtM.  Perhaps it was because a bunch of lesbians showed up in the dream, but that would make it even more weird. ::)

Mostly genderless, however I have never remembered having a dream where I am male but have remembered a lot of dreams where I am female. Usually uh... well, sexual, (hence how I can tell I am a girl in those dreams), or 3rd person dreams (though I don't have many of those).

But then dreams are complex and it's very possible the trigger that make me remember some dreams is being a girl in them (the shock, perhaps). I don't know. Ask Freud.

It's so annoying that both MTFs and FTMs exist and in equal quantities - it's like, well why can't we all just swap then?  ;)

As I tend to dream in 1st person I don't realise my gender. I am currently trying to learn how to lucid dream. Once I have mastered that I will choose to be my prefered gender.

I sometimes dream as mostly a boy, but there are situations in my dreams that I find myself very vulnerable. When that happens, I become a girl.

Most are male witnessing things around me.
In one I was a male doing my job and a young woman approached me.
White blouse, black short (above the knee) skirt with a black purse over her left shoulder.
When I got real close to her she was me.
Then I woke up.
One of the most vivid dreams I cannot forget.
I'll never forget that one.

Hmm, I've never really paid attention to my gender in dreams, I think for the most part I'm genderless. Most of my dreams are in 1st person so it's hard to tell, but every now and then I'll be male in a dream only to wake up and feel horribly disappointed.

I'm generally unaware of my gender in dreams, though there are a few occasions where I'll be definitely female...or male.

I dreamt my boobs had a rapid growth spurt last night...infact so rapid that i think they went pop as they grew. :D

Just tonight i had a dream where i was a boy  XD
It was the first time i had such a dream, i'm usually "genderless" on my dreams, seems like the gender isn't something that matters in the land of the sleep.
The curious thing is that in the dream, i knew that i was dreaming, but i also knew that when i wake up, i would be still a boy.
*sighs*
I confess i got a little depressed when i really woke up  .__.

A lot of the time I don't even have a body in my dreams, it's more like I'm watching a movie of myself.  Or not of myself.  I'm not always in my dreams. ???  But when I do have a body I usually don't recognize a gender either way, unless it's an embarrassing one where I'm dreaming about being naked in public...  In those dreams my body is female.

I have been dreaming more often though that my body is fully male, and lately I've been dreaming that I've been on T for a while.

As regards gender I have always been female in my dreams, but in terms of my sex, mostly male. Around the time of me discovering I was trans I was having dreams with me in a female body but for quite a few years now I have been male sexed.  :(

I'm usually female in my dreams good or bad. I guess I forget all about my genetics. I can remember dreaming as a child as being female which I am spiritually. When I first started comming out there was this dream of social embarassment.  My skirt tore off running out of a scary abandoned building and something yucky I didn't want exposed was. When I'm female in my dreams, I am genetically female by every characteristic and this is how I should have been born.

I don't pay attention to it much. I would say I'm actually androgynous. And in some of my dreams I'm a girl, but usually androgynous.

Im MTF pre-op. I often wake up when I get to the genital part of my dreams. But I have more dreams of me as a woman. If I am dreaming of something involving my past...then its male. But if it isn't, then usually female!
