Post by: GamerJames on July 28, 2010, 08:21:21 PM
It cost a crap-ton of moolah ($229), and will take 4-6 weeks to process, but at least it's submitted! ;D

Congrats to you both! It's been over a year for me and I still sit there and just look at the name on my drivers' license sometimes..  It's a great feeling!

Thanks again everyone. I'm really stoked for the name change to go through, but already dreading all the work and expense of changing all of my identification/etc. Trying to compose a list of what all will need changing, let me know if any of you have other ideas I'm forgetting that should be added to the list:

- Driver's license
- SIN card
- Birth certificate
- Passport
- Provincial health card
- Bank account/debit/credit/mortgage
- Insurance (car and home)
- Car registration
- Payroll at work/health insurance
- Paperwork at my children's schools
- Costco membership
- Store cards: grocery store/video store/etc.
- Library card (already done, including it here for those who are making their own list)
- Newspaper/magazine subscriptions (don't have any, including for others)

Also, any thoughts on what order these have to be done in? I'm thinking DL first, then BC, since everything else will likely need those two forms of ID to make the change. And probably bank before payroll, etc.

But if anyone has ideas about other things I'm forgetting that'll need to be changed, or other recommendations for what should be changed before something else (such as the examples of bank before payroll), please feel free to let me know. Hopefully it'll help anyone else who's at the same stage. :)

I hope the wait fly's by for you.

I changed my name about 2 months ago.. and it is amazing to be able to throw out the old name.. and finally be LEGAL

as for your list of people to notify, it isnt that hard.. the hardest part for me was the name change.. everyplace else just wanted documentation, and voila..

good luck

Don't forget utility bills and things like stocks and cd's or retirement accounts that aren't at your usual bank. Prior schools and even employers can be useful for future reference.

I changed mine legally last Friday. As soon as the notarised copies of the deed poll come back (should be end of this week) I can start doing the same.

My list looks something like this (I'm in the UK so that makes tax slightly different)

Bank
Employer (HR/Payroll, Pension, Security, IT)
HM Customs (Income tax and National Insurance)
Trade Union
NHS - doctor's records (and separately with the gender clinic)
Passport
Credit card
Mortgage provider
Title deeds for house
Utility companies
Internet provider
Mobile phone provider
Insurances
Library card
Vet (for my dog)

Can't get Birth certificate changed until I get Gender Recognition Certificate (which is at least a couple of years away) and I don't drive at all so there's no driving licence or motor insurance to be changed.

There's a few online subscriptions and things too. I probably won't remember them until I get an email addressed to Mrs ***** *****.
