It seems that one of the biggest risks in going out is being spotted by our neighbour as you leave the front door and climb into your car.
I was wondering what appraoches folks had to address this ? take the risk ? wear something over the clothes to pull off once inside your car ? find somewhere away from home to change ? (Where ?)
Well, I'm well past worrying about this, but my first few ventures out were after dark. It depends on your neighborhood, of course. At an apartment complex you're more likely to run into someone up close than if you live in a sleepy suburban neighborhood (which I do now). I rarely see anyone when coming or going anyway, these days. Consider going out at times of the day and week when people are less likely to be out.
You could build a secret exit from your cavernous underground lair, but that's kind of cliche, I suppose. You could change someplace away from home. Perhaps you could befriend a kindred spirit who'll let you change and doll up at her place.
Ultimately, there's nothing better than just being out in the open about how you wish to dress (tough to get to that point, of course). There are many of us who are not transitioning TS's who openly wear womens wear in public and believe it or not, most people don't really care. They all have their own lives to live. After the initial gossip thing wears off, most people just think of you as you.

Sorry but I can't help, my neighbors all know me as Janet and I come and go as I please.
But I know a couple of girls who rent a motel room for the night/day. A bit expensive, but because of the transient nature of them, who cares if someone see you. They don't know you.
I dress at home and do not care what the neighbors may think. They all know about my femme side abd might even enjoy it.
I rent a storage room (5x5) where I keep all of my stuff and I can dress up and put makeup on inside it. It's located in industrial part of our city without nearby businesses active after 5PM (so no one can connect my male persona with the female) and the owner was told upfront that I store clothes there and might dress up for a party in a dress and he's all right with that (as long as I pay monthly fee). I think it's best to keep my innocent activities far from home and close to bars/ places.
Frankly speaking I do not care about my neighbours, but I try to avoid my kids when I am ready to go out in full dress. A few neighbours ask me why I sometimes wear lipstick, high heels and skirt. Buy they never are rude to me. Their inquiry is very cautious.
In my apartment, there is a play ground, and everybody can see my wearing blue manicures in my toes when I play with my little daughter. My little daughter sometimes jokingly calls me as Mrs. She is so much outspoken, and explained for her playmates that her dad sometimes wears makeup and looks like a woman. But she is so much proud of her dad :D

I dress at home but i have not been out dressed yet.
I've done it in the car enough that I had a Revlon dashboard. But now it's at home, unless I'm somewhere else.
I usally change at home. I dont care if a neighbore sees me coming out of my house. The way my carport is made, you dont get a reall good look anyway and even if they did. its none of their business.
I haven't been out yet, but would likely wait until after dark (at least initially), change at home, and get in the car before opening the garage door. Use the reverse strategy for coming home.
I have my stuff on a storage as well, but i dont dress up there,
depending on where i go and what i do i decide where i do the whole make over,
If im going on a biz trip i take some of my things at least enought to make my self a complete makeover,
If i want to go out in the same city i live in , i decide the hour and i pick up my stuff and do the whole thing in the car, maybe on a parking lot, i change everything there, even underware, is very difficult, and sometimes you damage the nylons, i thing is not really recomended but it is a resource.
The other thing is to get a cheap hotel of 34usd per night and do you thing there and go out dressed up, you may be ok, no one will know you there, and no one will bother you, plus no one will give a peanut to try to recognize you but to try to know what are you and if you are on the market, as long as you show respect to others and dress accordingly you will do fine.
If you go overseas, is recommended to do some reasearch about the region and try to contact some one in the community to guide you a little, take my sugestion ....wherever you go take with you your nylons a dress and a pair of heels, plus makeup the basic, you need to try to go out and explore as your other you, this is an exciting thing besides just keeping your hobie at home or your car while driving.
If you are already a girl, well you may got another different sight to this but you still trying to have fun, so then challenge the sexyiness in the street without looking too much.

I finally organized everything that I would require for a makeover into 1 average suitcase. I drive an SUV and it has a roomy back seat. I will park at a safe location and move to the back. The windows are tinted so I am not visible from the outside.
Now this is not my favorite place to change, but it is convenient. I much prefer a hotel room or my RV.
I will dress casually...lingerie, jeans, blouse or a tee-shirt, after which I then do my make-up.
My favorite part is always when I flip back my long hairpeice and whala presto chango!
So now Linsey is in charge and she climbs out, checks herself over in the windows, gets back in and drives away...
At home.
Neighbours have seen me in female and male dress. No one has said anything. My neighbours are quite social so we get together for drinks a few times a year. They don't seem to care. I don't. Most are in their late 50s, and some have 20-30 year old daughters, with family. I get to hold the babes as much as any one else. Blessed relief for Mums I think.
Nice people. No one has even commented to me beyond the girls asking where I got particular clothes and of course I love ear rings so I have to tell where I got them from.
I got invited to my next door neighbours 16 yr old's party last week. She and her friends are so cute and very polite. I only stayed an hour or so, not my music >:-), but no one seemed to have a problem with me. I didn't have a problem with them either.
Funny never thought about hotels. motels, cars etc. Once I accepted me I was me.
Over the last few years at Sus's I have developed ? Learned? Accepted? a view of myself. It has been with a lot of help either given or read into by the people here. But I now I totally accept myself as female. There is nothing odd about me putting on make up anywhere, except when driving >:-) ???
I think a break through was last week, when I had to be in male clothes (I won't go into the reasons). I was referred to as a young lady by a guy shop owner. It was so weird, he had never seen me before, or at least I had never seen him.
I'm at a very strange part of my life, for many different reasons. My scientific brain finds it interesting. My emotional brain is screaming. Is it hormonal? I am a very strong emotional person and I'm screaming.

I change at a friend's house. She's MtF transgender, and lives there with like, six other people and none of them seem to mind at all.
They do, however, at times forget that when I'm dressed up I go by a different name, but I don't get offended by that or anything. ::) I've never gone out in public dressed out, just to hang out with friends, but when I do go out, hopefully they won't accidentally call me a "she" in public and call me out. :-X That'd be bad.
Years ago when I first was comming out , I dressed in my Ford Van. Hey, I knew the value of owning such a vehicle as I was manufacturing interior accessories for those trucks .

I live in Shanghai china since more than 10 years ago, i have my family and some kids at home, therefore i cant dress up there at all, i got my gear at my office in a suitcase and when i have a biz trip i take it with me when i can.
Well i dont do that very often lately, as i found this makeover studio where i already went several times, first ones with a friend from Alaska and other times alone since i already befriended with the gurls that work there, all of them are very friendly and caring cds and most of them live normal lives as a man and have gf, kids etc, is very nice the feeling to find like-minded people and find a niche for what you like to do in a safe way and friendly way, there is nothing wrong in that as long you dont do something that put your marriage or your health at risk. i mean the people i go for cding are like a social club where everyone has a job, role or activity.
Let me explain, i go there with my outfit and shoes thats all, underneath i already changed the undies and hose depending what you will dress, i prefer to do that in advance as i think getting totally naked at a place is beyond the limits as a man or woman even, I know that ladies ususally girls like to dress up togehter and share privacy etc, nothing wrong with that, but a man is different we prefer space and distance and if we are starting to know new cd people and letting you see by others is also a difficult stage in adapting, nothing homosexual or sexual of course but letting another guy seeing you feels a little weird at least to me as i am straight, if i have a lady maybe is different.
So i go there with the minimum to change, ...there are people at this studio who do different things, one is the makeup artist and she is a fantastic gg and also pretty chinese girl, she is an amazing artist really transforms any man into a real lady, flawless, she does tricks and effects in the faces to hide the manly features and accent the femenine ones and create new ones. for 10 usd she is doing it for the members or regular customers, then there is this girl too that take the pictures and she knows the technique, amazing photographer and photoshop artist, then you have the host who is the translator although most of them understand english but when they speak is a little slow so he helps on that and also he dresses up togehter with everybody, he also helps you to choose a dress from their boutique they have an extended variety of styles and size, is a paradize for the crossdresser. there are other 5 gurls that also work there hellping and caring for the customers who happen to be also cd as well, so imagine when it is really busy, you just get your gear on line up for your turn with the makup artist and when whe dolled you up all with the hairdo and allin all you just sit with other cd and chat for hours drinking anything and admiring other cd ideas to wear things etc, well if you are not cd you will find this completely weird and crazy, yes, but if you share the thrill you will find this as a dream place, and yes it exists.
So normally when i go with another person we take pictures and we do the whole makeover, afterwards, have some drinks there and go out to a bar or something fully dressed and transformed, the only thing that reveals our cover is the voice and the height thats it, the rest normally is passsable, even the body curves that they insert on you padding all the angles and every detail.
there is the "the were i dress up now" is fun, is confident, and you dont go out alone.

When I belonged to a support group they had a changing room, sometimes I would get a room at a hotel when I was going out, but as I became more experienced I change at home now.
is lots of fun for cd tgs etc, for anyone who are into this hobbie /lifestyle

I do my makeup and get dressed at home except for my breast forms, heels and wig. Away from home, I finish dressing in my car. It is really difficult to completely dress in the car.
