Title: Everything is starting to come together!
Post by: kyle_lawrence on August 11, 2010, 12:13:24 PM
Finally! After about 7 months of suck and unemployment (resulting in depression), things are finally starting to work out for me.

I've re-connected with an old friend, and made a new one who both understand and are supportive of my genderqueer/ trans identity.  It helps that one is FTM, and the other is a queer cis-male, but I finally have people in my life who I can really be myself around.

I returned to the horse farm I worked at from when I was 12-21, and have gotten back into horseback riding and teaching. I have a focus now, kids who see me as an experienced adult to look up to, and of course amazing horses to work with.  My trainer is helping me find a horse (and will allow me to work on the farm in exchange for board), and I'm hoping to go look at a 5 year old who has just started to be trained under saddle to is available for a free lease.

I worked a one day job for a caterer a couple weeks ago, bussing tables and keeping the buffet stocked at a wedding, and was asked to work for her again this saturday at another wedding.  The uniform is black pants and a white button up shirt, so I can dress androgenous (and most importantly, feel comfortable) while working.  Theres potential for at least 3 more weddings working with the same caterer in the next couple months too.

I have an interview this afternoon for a permanent position in a cafe/ sandwich shop.  Part time, but anything is better than nothing.

Things are working out, im happier overall than I have been in almost a year, and my life is finally moving in a direction I want.  Maybe I'll even be able to buy a car and move out of my moms house by the end of the year.

I know this was pretty random, but this place needs more positive posts.

Thanks!  I'm afraid it doesn't look to promising though.  By the time I found the girl I was interviewing with (she had me meet her at a starbucks, and I realized when I got there I had no idea who I was looking for and forgot to save her cell number..... It resulted in lots of awkward standing around and people watching for a bit) it was off to a rough start.  I decided to just start asking people who were sitting alone "are you ****?" and got lucky the first try.  She looked at me all confused and asked my name, followed by an uncomfortable "nice to meet you".  I thought I was in an obvious "I'm looking/ waiting for someone" spot by the door, so I'm wondering if she read me as male and figured I couldn't be me (with a female name on my resume)?

It got better once we started talking, but she told me that she got over 30 resumes for the position, so we'll see what happens.  I'm going to believe that her asking me to e-mail her my references means im still in the running though.  I'm also going to follow up on a couple other leads tomorrow, because 30 people is a lot of competition.

Hey Kyle, good to read that you finally found some peace in several departments of your life. The only thing I can say is: enjoy it. And apart from that: live, laugh and learn. Seems to me like you're in a good spot to work your way forward.

As for the part-time job: who knows, you might get it, you might not. If you don't there's always tomorrow, or the day after, or the week after with another chance. At least you got the positive energy now to head on and grab those chances as they come. Good on you. :)
