Title: Do you forget?
Post by: kaide on August 18, 2010, 05:42:38 PM
So, I was curious, do you forget what you used to look like? I've been living full time for, gosh.. umm, 6 months? maybe 7? i dont remember. Well, I was looking in the mirror, and I hardly ever just stare, just awkward, and I was thinking... I look completely different... and what the heck did I used to look like? lol. I mean, I can imagine the clothes and all, but idk, its just, I see who I am now, to who I used to be, and its like a completely different person is staring back at me.

Which, I love this person way more lol, and so does everyone else I know, but I mean, looks wise, I cant remember really, just cant picture it.

I bet that sounds confusing huh? I'm just rambling on, haven't been on here in a while, been taking care of RL stuff, name changes, relationship, ect, hopefully by the end of next week my name change will be taken care of, yay :)

But, maybe I should start coming back here regularly.

Some days, Yes.  But I have pictures of the person I used to be.  So I can remind myself of where I came from.

I don't remember very well.  I'm not sure how I look different but I know I do.  All I see in the mirror now is a woman, but I remember that I thought NO ONE would ever see me as one.  I have pictures from before, but that seems like a completely different person to me.

But in a way I've been through this before.  In one two-year period I got divorced, got promoted from enlisted to officer, was transfered from the west coast to the east, started graduate school, and met and married my second spouse.  There seemed to be a clear division between who I was before and who I was then.  Perhaps we all go through different phases where we become almost different people, it's just that most non-trans people don't go through quite as drastic a change as we do.

I find this topic fascinating because even with the way I look now I can never actually picture myself as I look. I can close my eyes and try, I can get parts of my face but never a clear picture, even if I stare in the mirror for like 10 minutes then after 1-3 minutes my mental image has altered again.

I am unsure if this is normal or not for any of us.

IDK why it popped in my head, a friend, who I know through a friend, first met me as Jules, short for Julie, well, she was curious, what I used to look like. So, I showed her a picture, and I was thinking then, huh... did I really look like that? feels so long ago lol.

She looked at the picture, looked at me, the pic, me, and was like... wtf, that's totally not you heh. I was like.. yeah.. she goes... you were cute, but you're definitely better as a girl :)

I went from short spikey hair, metrosexualish clothing, to what I am now. my clothing hasn't' changed that much lol, I just don't get called names now walking down the street like I used to :P ... I do get whistles though ;)
