Title: Have you gotten hips from HRT?
Post by: Jillieann Rose on August 23, 2010, 04:11:35 PM
I almost afraid to ask the question after the breast question I ask yesterday. https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/topic,82738.0.html (https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/topic,82738.0.html)
But here goes anyway. Did or are your hip enlarging on HRT?
I mean are you getting more curvy?
When did it start happening?
I do not have any new fatty deposit on the hips after 8 months.
I'm still straight as can be down their. I would love to have some curves.
Thanks,
Jillieann

Have you had your e and T levels checked recently honey?

I have gotten a bit more curvey. My hips have not grown but my theighs have gotten a little bigger. My waist is much more noticable too. Combine that with the upper body getting smaller and my little boobs I do have some curves. I've always had a fairly good butt. My stomach seems to have changed a little bit, has a more fem curve to it.

Nicky I'm in my late fifties and I was told to not expect to much.
I now have fairly nice B cup breasts and am please with the softer skin.
I've have lost the male sent and now if I have showered recently I get a female smell.
All to say I believe my hormone levels are good.
I had the spiro  up about a month ago.
But thank you for being concerned.
Oh wow Dee you look good.
Maybe someday I can look half as good.

Looking back, fat redistribution was agonizingly slow but by about 2 years I was starting to be really happy with my butt and thighs (especially inner  thighs.) I think that, at least for me, the unintentional weight gain over the course of HRT was very beneficial to my appearance. There's less around my upper waist now but what was there seems to have migrated down to my hips. As a result, my butt looks awesome in a pair of low-rise jeans.

I've heard it said that if you want curves, you take off as much weight as you can BEFORE you go on HRT, and then eat with a "healthy" appetite when you're on it.  Makes sense to me.  I've got a bunch of months to go yet, I think, before I'll be on HRT, so I'm definitely planning on losing as much as I can in the meantime...

My body has stuck lots of fat onto my abdomen particularly my bum but other regions to however no change in bone hip structure. this gives me a 1:1 hip to shoulder ratio.

I have got very small adolescent curves because I appear to have lost muscle and fat from my midsection.

The hips we are used to seeing in mature GGs are from bone structure with a little padding from female fat.  Once you've physically matured, your bones stop growing.  HRT will not affect bone structure after maturity.  The growth plates fuse around the age of 25.

But you can always have some gains through fat deposits.  What you gain and where you gain it will depend on your DNA.

3 months into HRT sometimes I wake up with the feeling that my waist bones are poking at my skin from the inside, and the spot feels a little numb or warm. I can't be sure if that's what it is, if there's someone with more knowledge of skeletons what do you think?? :D

Fat accumulation around my butt and hips has been much slower too, but then I lost weight overall since I started. I need to eat more pizza and cake!!!

I have noticed that my hips have gotten bigger -- especially after SRS. I know a few people who have experienced the same; however, that's not the case with everyone.

I have decent curves, which I'm thankful for.

Hips?  No.  I've gained 15 pounds since starting HRT 16 months ago.  Most of it has gone to my butt, thighs, and lower belly (the pooch), with a little to my cupcake breasts.  My waist is only marginally bigger than it was 15 pounds ago, but I'm about ready to try taking the extra weight off to trim the waist if I can.  (Or at least firm it up. :P)

I lost 65 pounds just before going on HRT and I got very skinny. In the year and a half since then I've put back on 20 pounds which has all gone to my butt, belly, and breasts. I definitely have a bigger backside than when I started but as Julie said, it's all padding not bone structure. The biggest thing I noticed was developing a feminine waistline as the vertical male build on my sides slid down and merged into my hips, creating curves. I definitely think that losing all that weight before HRT made it easier to acquire it back in the right places.

I was lucky enough to be graced with female hip bone structure, so hips have never been an issue with me.  I have a number of friends not as lucky and they have seen some padding develop from HRT.  I've also seen some optical illusion tricks used to help in that area.  For example, one friend wears her belts with the buckle to the side which broadens the profile of the hip area.

Oh wow!
Answers are all over the board.
Well at least that gives me some hope.
I have a nice butt but just really bony thighs.
Thinking about my sister they are very curvy so maybe over time.

Lies.

Ok, I'll cheer people up instead :)

You'll look wonderful! Your hips will probably not grow much but with the right cloths you can get some balance. No need for tricks unless you are very unlucky I guess. Your dream is possible! And I hope you will all achieve it, It will be great and even if not soon, one day we will all be able to do it :)

P.S. I don't think I look terrible but I surely have quite a bit of muscle to lose at my arms (which is odd as I was always a couch potato), a bit narrow hips and a bit wide shoulders. I hope to fix it somehow sometime. Otherwise I am quite happy with how I look and hope we can all achieve perfection and be who and what we are.

I am afraid of hurting people who are in worse position than I am and I don't want to show as bragging or showing off . But if instead it inspires people to feel they can achieve their wishes, then go sure. Things can improve, A LOT. they might not be perfect, as I said - I have stuff I WANT to be fixed, I might get them fixed one day, but good luck to us all :)

I don't think my hips have gotten any wider, but I was lucky enough to start with hips about as wide as my shoulders.  My errr ... backside, on the other hand, has gotten quite a bit fuller and affects my hip measurement.  I look pretty good in size 8 boot cut jeans ;)

Oh, and I agree with Janet, you look fantastic Myself!

I do wear size minus though, no hips here! And I am even a little bit overweight, all in my belly. Oh well.

And Thanks, I took that photo today after talking to my bf on webcam (skype). Saw the replies here, saw the photo, thought "ok, maybe I don't look that bad". But it comes and goes, really :/ also depends a lot on clothing. At least it took only one attempt at the photo, yay.

So yeah, hips isn't everything and with the right cloths even small hips can be okish.. though might not feel that way most of the time :/ maybe they will still change a bit, I dunno.. brr.. but I am sure that once I lose the muscles around the arms (which I don't think are very visible with that photo..usually when I actually stand) then things will be better.

You do look real good Myself.
In your photo you look like you have very nice curves.
I need to lose some stomach and then maybe I will feel better about how I look.
But than again I am still hoping for more (some) fat to accumulate on my thighs so my hips will look bigger.

I've been waiting for a good warm day to post my reply to this question. The reason is that I thought the most helpful reply that I could give was to post a swim-suited pic of myself after 30 years on HRT. So here is one taken today as I got into the swimming pool in our garden.

Now please bear in mind that I am now in my 50's and so somethings are not as trim as I would now wish. For comparison I will also post a pic of me aged about 25 just after I had had my SRS - which has occasionally appeared previously elsewhere on the site. as you will see my figure did continue to develop.

For the record both pics are un-retouched. I am 100% makeup free, I have NO surgical alterations other than SRS. My body is silicone and padding free. The results you see are purely those of HRT.

Whilst each of us will respond differently I hope these pics give some idea of what can be achieved by prolonged HRT. As you can see I DO have female style hips. Not massive ones - but they are there.

Jenny,

I know you had other things going on pre-HRT, so I'm curious -- did you have hips pre HRT?  How long were you on HRT at 25?

Yeah well whether my other issues were relevant I am not sure, it is possible that having some degree of androgen insensitivity may have helped me. At the point where that turquoise suit pic was taken I had been on HRT for slightly less than 2 years and I had been postop for very slightly less than one year.

Back then I did cheat somewhat on various aspects of the SOC with my doctors help ;)

Bibilinda,
It's good to meet you.
I checked out your photo and video.
Wow! And you say your not going full time ...
Quoteuntil I feel I look and act convincingly as one, which I see very far-fetched for the time being.
Aha ... You sure look like a sweet girl to me.

I would sure like to try those exercises to make my hips even a little bigger.
Can you share with us?
Thanks

This might not be the appropriate thread for this, and if I should post elsewhere, I offer my sincerest apologies.  I was just wondering what kind of hip growth the girls who started transitioning very young (18-23 maybe...before the hips fuse at least) are experiencing.  I'm 20 and I'm trying to begin HRT soon, and I'm just kinda wondering what I can expect.  I'm very fortunate that even 100% pre HRT I have a fairly feminine build; is there any sort of guessing rule, similar to the sister-1 cup size bit, or is it just too wide a variance?

Me now, completely boy mode.

Edit: eek, my shirt is a little billowy, I'm not quite that fat.

And to the OP. I have gained a little in my butt and my thighs look pretty awesome but still waiting for hips to develop better. Fingers crossed. About a year and 3 months HRT.

I am glad to hear that you are happy with your HRT result,at the moment, I started my HRT for just more than 1 week. However, it seems not significant change on my butt, I do feel like more feminate of my face. I am 24 year old, would it be too old to start the HRT or should i increase the prescription level ?

Women's pelvic bones are angled differently.  Men's are essentially vertical, but womens' are angled narrower at the top and wider at the bottom, to facilitate childbirth.  So a transwoman cannot get full hips.  But, after 3 years, my silhoutte has definitely changed from fat redistribution, to have wider hips.
