Title: Reed or McGinn
Post by: KatieL on August 24, 2010, 09:22:29 AM
Hi,

My name is Katie and I am now at the point in my transition where it is time to schedule my SRS surgery.  I am really between two Drs at this point.  I think I am going to choose McGinn but I still think Reed might be a good choice as well.  He is a little cheaper and he can do my surgery several months before McGinn can.  I am not sure if I like his 24 observation and then moved to a hotel though.  Also I love the fact McGinn is also one of us and has personally gone through this stage herself.  A lot of people on here seem to really like McGinn but there are not a lot of comments about Reed.  I would love to hear the thoughts of people on this fourm :)

Well being a Uk girly and also having been postop for the best part of 30 years I'm not really qualified to advise - but I would say that purely from the photos on the various websites Reed looks very impressive to me.

But then having had a little revision work earlier this year with a UK surgeon I can testify that all modern surgeons can get you good results.

I went to McGinn, and think she is great. Her follow up is top notch, and she really cares about her patients. I, and this is my opinion, never likes Reeds 24 hours of observation and discharge to a hotel. I had urethral bleeding about 36 hours after due to the catheter getting pulled on a little, and, if I were in a hotel, it could have been disastrous. Instead I was in the hospital, McGinn came out at 2 in the morning, took care of things, and got me back on the road to recovery. With Reed, if something goes wrong and you have to go the the hospital, you probably end up paying full boat, which is $5,000 or so per day, versus the deal McGinn has for $1,000 per day all inclusive for hospital. For me, I just can't get around the hotel thing. Though, I do hear really great things about Reeds revision work.

I went to McGinn and have to agree with everything KatGirl said. She is totally dedicated to her patients and a real sweetheart besides. I have had excellent results, even with a bleeding complication that I had after surgery which made me also glad I was in the hospital. She had me stay an extra day just to be sure I was okay, and has kept close tabs on me post-op. I can't imagine getting any better treatment than I've received from her. I can also tell you that everything is working perfectly! ;)
