Title: When you are in your dreams, are you a man or a woman?
Post by: Devyn on September 05, 2010, 10:32:53 PM
This started to make me curious since I am FtM, but I've only ever had one dream where, in that dream, I thought I was a guy or was a guy.

In the one dream I thought I was a guy or was a guy...well, I'll make the font smaller to indicate the story about my dream because it's just kind of unnerving in my opinion and everybody doesn't want/need to read about my obnoxious, gross/messed up dreams.

I was being chased up the stairs in my mom's house by I guess my biological dad. I think it was him, but I'm not quite sure; I never actually saw who was chasing me. Regardless, my hair was about jaw length (where it is now), I was wrapped in a towel like it was a blanket (where I had in over my shoulders, you know?) But you couldn't see my chest or my downstairs, if you know what I mean.
I was supposedly naked (I may have had a bra and underwear on) except for the towel and I ran into my room and tried to hide in the closet, but my closet didn't have doors because it doesn't in real life and whoever was chasing me reached between my legs but my underwear was down and I was wearing a pad soaked in blood and they stopped. Maybe it was like, a verfication of my biological sex? I don't know.
It freaked me out, of course. I woke up with practically a heart attack. That's the only dream where I ever tried to hide my female body.

In every other dream, my body just didn't seem to matter. My body seems irrelevant in my dreams.

I don't know. It just made me curious to know what other FtMs and MtFs are in their dreams.

I'm pretty much with you on the "My body seems irrelevant in my dreams." In the dreams where I see my body (which isn't that often, really) I think I'm female in them? In one I had my binder on, but I've never had a dream specifically about my body, or had a dream where I 'acknowledged' it, so to say, so I don't really know downstairs wise. My dreams are often about odd things that are happening rather than myself, so I don't really seem to notice my body.

I'm surprised my body doesn't matter in my dreams, to be honest, because most of my dreams are sexual. Maybe it's because when I'm sleeping, it's the only time that I'm not constantly thinking about it, so it just seems irrelveant altogether. Also, in my dreams, it's usually about the other people and things in the dream rather than myself, so it just doesn't occur to me. So I guess we're about the same with that.

My dreams have never been sexual, but I too am surprised that I don't notice it so much, since I'm so concious about it all through the day. In one dream, I met my bio-male friend out in my garden, and though I had a flat chest (presumably I was binding) I still had the shyness and uncomfortable feeling I felt before I was presenting as male, and I just felt inadequate in comparison to him, plus he was a ridiculous amount taller than me- like a whole foot?

in sex dreams, i am always male-bodied without exception.  it's been like that since i started having sex dreams as a teenager. i'll look down (uh, mid-thrust? sorry if that's tmi, haha) and see that i have all the proper equipment and it's an awesome experience. but in non-sexual dreams, it seems like i just have the body that i'm stuck with right now, and a recurring theme is that everyone sees me as male, but i'm always attempting to hide my chest from everyone and constantly fearing that someone will notice my chest.  i hate those dreams, and it seems like they occur most often when i have a lot of stress in my life. blah.

Aww.. Why haven't I ever had a sex dream, haha? The closest I got was where I was dreaming about this girl I used to know (but now she was my age, and really hot) and I woke up and then fell back asleep and she was ontop of me whilst we were kissing quite fiercely, but I know for a fact that I didn't have a dick in this dream, though I didn't appear to be binding (or I didn't notice I was) or have female breasts.
Oh, I also woke up again before anything raunchy could happen. Feels bad man.

In my happier dreams I'm male. In my nightmares, I'm female. This is true about 95% of the time, the exceptions are rare.

In my dreams, I'm usually very androgynous. So much so, in fact, that people keep asking me if I'm a girl or a boy. I answer boy or say that I'm both or neither or whatever I feel like. Those dreams are happy dreams.
The sex dreams... I'm usually flat-chested and more "liney than curvy" in them. I often use strapons.
In my nightmares I'm female and very vulnerable.

Still mixed. Sometimes I'm recognizably female, more and more often I'm male, and sometimes I'm just me, no particular awareness of gender.

Uh...I'm a guy and tend to dream I am as I am. My "fantasy self" (if you wanna call it that) is a bit more androgynous than I am. I don't usually see my body in my dreams.

In sexual dreams I've always been male bodied, even before I discovered transgenderness but in other dreams I don't really notice.

I just had the most uncomfortable dream last night.
In it I spent a long time getting dressed in terribly... over the top... female garb. I swear, I looked like a 5 dollar, street-corner hooker.
I was going to a plastic surgeon for some reason or another, and I was trying to pass as female.
Once I got there, my Mom was there! And I talked to her about some of the work she was getting done.
I then went to some form of changing room to see how good a job I'd done on dressing up, and I looked a right joke.

I didn't dream I was a woman, I dreamt I was a man trying to look like a woman because it made something easier.
I don't remember what that something was, but I do remember that I was at the point where I was about to cancel my appointment and run out cause I was just that humiliated and uncomfortable about how I appeared.

Anyway, ramble over.
I almost always dream I'm a bloke.

As a child, I was a boy in my dreams until social conditioning started to take over. So I just lived as a boy in my waking fantasies. Now I don't have the fantasies anymore, and my dreams are becoming more and more accurate. I feel as if I'm merely returning to my roots.

I should also note that when I'm obviously female, the dream is usually quite disturbing and "wrong" in other ways. I have nightmarish dreams whether I'm male or female, but the girl dreams are pretty much always messed up or scary in some way, like my parents get dragged into it or something.

As a kid I was always a boy....then older I got gender never really showed in my dreams with one exception.  However, all my dreams show me flat chested --- which is a far cry from how I am now even binding.

However, the one exception is that I have always been male in my sexual dreams

Whenever i refer to myself in my head, i use male pronouns or refer to myself as male and always have; so in dreams its usually the same. However it's more like, if a dream does not contain somebody i know, or if i do know them the situation is very surreal, i will just be more male. Other times, in dreams i will appear male from my point of view but others still react towards me as they do IRL (before coming out). And yes, of the 2/3 kind of sexual dreams i have had i 'felt' male but in once case my downstairs was dissapointingly still female ( i think). That being said they were all pretty tame dreams anyway... Sheesh

Oh P.S. Devyn, is that your chosen male name? Mine's Devin right here, only i hadn't decided before i joined this site. *Devvy high five*

Usually in my dreams I am male. Almost exclusively. But nightmares on the other hand, I tend to be female. I have a lot of nightmares about being raped. That is one of my big fears IRL (people finding out I am female and raping me).

I'm myself, so I guess I'm male. A few weeks ago I dreamt I was having a pissing contest with my cis male flatmate and I was hitting the ceiling! I also had a dream that I was in a gay club and I was freaking out cos I wearing girl undies and my packer had turned into a real dick and gotten hard and the undies couldn't contain it LOL. However it was still detachable and I was dancing around the club waving it in my hand and slapping guys in the face with it.

Interesting.

hmmm when i've had dreams, i was always a guy. I mean i never actually saw myself but, i seemed to aknowledge that i was male. people knew i was a guy and i always had the most beautiful girlfriends in my dreams xD my dreams were actually the reason i began questioning my gender, then later everything else kind of made sense after that haha

I'm myself (when I'm not 'watching' a dream) but don't note any particular sex, gender, or genital arousal. The furthest I've got with sex dreams is a makeout session that turned into weird dream crap as soon as it started.

I just tend to be myself in dreams. If I have had any dreams where I was specifically male or female (as opposed to just being ME) I don't recall them or that fact didn't have much impact on the dream itself so it was kind of a forgotten side note.

At the same time I don't have sexual dreams. The extent of my dreams that involve anything physical would be the smaller items like kissing. I guess when I do have sexual dreams they tend to be during times when I find myself attracted to someone new and the dreams are more about getting to that point to begin with, the asking on a first date or that moment where things just fall together and enter the romantic/relationship zone. Perhaps if I had dreams that went farther I would notice a difference in my body, but basically all of my dreams involve having clothes on and with my clothes I look male anyhow.

I'm generally male in my dreams and my dreams switch from first person to third and back again quite a bit so I can often see what I look like.  I think twice I was female in my dreams that I can remember and all the others I was male.

Lol, I'm glad you guys liked my dreams.

I've noticed that if I have sex dreams about a specific person it's often someone I'm totally not attracted to in real life. I've had some weird ones.  Also ones about people I hate, but I think its common to want to do it with people you hate. It's a strong feeling.

Before T I always had lady bits in my dreams and I'd be trying to hide them all the time from people. Now that I'm on T, I haven't really had many dreams I can remember where I'm aware of my body. When I am aware of my body, it's how it is now. I guess I just dream how things are in current reality when it comes to bodies.

I've also only ever had one sex dream and it was right before I got my shot of T. All the other times something got in the way or I was rejected or something. Haven't had a real sex dream after that either.

I don't know about people who I "hate" but my dreams that are romantic/sexual in nature always do seem to be rather random people.

The last one I had was a dream about this woman I work with who is my friend. We had a weird fight (in real life) because we both got the impression that the other one was crushing on us. Fact is neither of us liked the other one as more than friends but there was just some weird comments here and there amongst playful flirting that got us both turned around a bit about how the other person felt. When this happened she told me she was trying to be nice and not reject me flat out like all other women do because I don't have the "parts" she feels are necessary for her to have a relationship since she is straight. About a week later I had a dream about her that was romantic although not completely sexual, more like it was working up to that point.

I feel like I had the dream because she rejected me for being trans. Although I do have to argue her point in real life of not wanting to be like all the other women who reject me, first I don't get rejected often and second only one woman other than her has ever had a problem with my being trans, and that is because that woman was a lesbian. I've never once had a straight girl comment on my lack of a penis before so it was pretty insulting, especially the way she worded it, it seemed like more of an attack and a statement mad out of anger. We've worked ->-bleeped-<- out since then and are back to being friends, I worked that one out by doing the, "You were right, I'm totally wrong," approach... she glowed for about a week and now we are best buds again lol. Amazing how that line always works even when you don't mean it.

It is weird though when you think about it, the people who I've had dreams about aren't necessarily enemies but it does seem to be that kind of situation where they have somehow recently insulted or hurt my feelings in some way. I never really connected that until some of these comments on the thread.

Usually my body is irrelevent, but I know I am male (as I do in real life, because a good number of my dreams are a lot like real life.)

I've had some good dreams where I was more masculine and had male equipment (sexual ones.)

I'm kind of jealous, I don't even have a penis in my dreams. Or at least I don't have any dreams where I get to see that I have one as opposed to just looking like myself in every other aspect.

Why is it even in my dreams I can't have male equipment? lol

I did remember one dream I had recently where I was a female, don't think I commonly have those dreams or maybe I just don't remember them often enough. I only know I was female because I was married to Denzel Washington. At least if I have to have gay dreams I pick good looking men lol.

I'm usually male. It's always been that way ever since I was little. Occasionally I'll be female, but I've noticed it usually only when my family is in the dream.  I was female in a dream I had the other night and my mum was in it...So was Alice from the L word, but I'm pretty sure that has nothing to do with it. haha

Sex dreams are pretty much exclusively as male.. and always have the better orgasms then real life.. O_o.
Other dreams I'm often fluid between male and female or genderless - as soon as the action turns up and I'm starting to kill zombies or such - I'm male.
Dreams where I am female are often stress dreams - dreams about my parents forcing me to marry some dude etc.

However as of recently..I'm FTM in all my dreams.. I'm stuck in my female body, but everyone views me as male.. and that's okay I guess.

Edit: actually in alot of my dreams (including the sex ones) I'm not human.. sooooooooooooo.. I'm a werewolf or such.. O_o

I've almost always been male in my dreams, even as a child and before I knew I was transgendered. Occasionally I will have a nightmare in which I'm female-bodied and everyone will be identifying me as female but those are fairly rare. My dreams are usually weird. Like pulp adventure fiction.

In all of my sexual dreams I am male-bodied, without fail, but when my dreams are more normal and reality based my gender isn't a factor really. Come to think of it, I can't remember a dream where I've ever been called by any name other than "Hey you!" Weird.

I have a lot of dreams about masturbation, and I always have male equipment, or I've just discovered that I do and I'm so damn ecsastic.  Then I have to wake up.

I'm male, and I actually have trans-related dreams a lot; about people finding out, and accepting me anyway.  At the beginning of transition, I had dreams that I was trying to keep people from finding out, but now they generally don't, or I tell them myself.  Seems I'm a little more confident about that.

I haven't had a dream with me as female in it for a long time now, but I think... In some of my nightmares, I am.  It depends on the type.  I vaguely remember one in which I was crying in agony, and I remember having long hair.  That wasn't a very clear dream, though.  So, although it's rather vague, I'll have to echo the always male except with some nightmares. It's very strange.

Speaking of names, shortly after I changed my name legally (to Lewis), I dreamed that I was coming out to my dad, and telling him I was changing my name to Brian. Why Brian, I have no clue. I don't even like the name.

That is awesome dude. I wish my dreams were like that. But instead, I typically am male in my dreams - not always, but most of the time - and that is pretty good too.
yeah.. well I am a little warped.

I'm kind of jealous, I don't even have a penis in my dreams.

Why is it even in my dreams I can't have male equipment? lol

I can kind of relate.
I have allot of dreams where it seems like I'm really buff and...
pretending to be batman or some thing- but lacking the below devices.  :(
The closest I've ever gotten to being a male in any of my dreams
was recently during a wet dream where I guess I imagined what it would be like if I were in early transition.   :embarrassed:

I switch between people in dreams a lot, I'll be a young boy for a minute and an adult woman for a minute; the only consistent thing is I've never been old. I've dreamed I was older than I am in real life before, but I've never been like wrinkled, grey-haired over 60 old.

I don't remember ever thinking about or talking about what my gender is in any of my dreams, so I guess you could say that that means I don't have one when I dream, or that my gender has just never been relevant and/or never been something I think about in any of my dreams.

I am usually a male. I'll dream I'm female at first but then I'm male. I had a dream one time where I actually had a penis and when I woke up I looked down and when I didn't have one I was depressed all day.
