Some young boys insist on wearing dresses and identifying as a girl, and some young girls do the opposite. Parents are often left to puzzle out whether it's a passing phase, or if a child will grow up feeling stuck in the wrong body. We discuss issues facing gender variant kids, and a conference aiming to support them and their families this weekend in Berkeley.
Guests:
* Diane Ehrensaft, developmental and clinical psychologist working with transgender families
* Joel Baum, director of education and training for Gender Spectrum
* Rachel Beckert, mother of a transgender seven year old
I was going to go to this conference but money is short right now.
Too bad, it would have likely been a good experience.
That was an interesting and surprisingly intelegent discussion, the likes of which would never appear on any British broadcasting. Not because of its subject, but becuse everything here is so incredably dumbed down.
Not a lot of new information. But worth the time it took to listen.
