I .... I... I think I'm speechless ... *blinks*
OK. There's something I really need to know about this whole enema ordeal. I understand that when you are in the hospital that you are sharing a room with your surgery partner. So, when it comes time to do the enema, can the other person you are sharing the room with hear what is going on?
Maybe I should get an additional ticker. 7 Days Until Kristyn's Bathroom Collage!
Indeed....the joys of prep before the magic begins....lol
Though I seem to remember the amount of pills I needed to get things going again a week or so later.... was even more perplexing....

Please, please, please....no photos of this event. The curved dilators.....pics welcome.
Best of luck Sara.
Having had abdominal surgery in the past, I can fully understand what you went through. And it isn't fun.
But it is necessary.

OMG is right!! That one hurts like hell. Those are exactly the same as the ones I have, from soulsourceenterprises.com (the ones they show on the website are not the same, but these ones are the ones they send)
I keep hoping that #4 will get easier but 11 weeks now and it still has me crying. The thing is it was easier but got more difficult (I won't say harder because those things are hard as bricks as it is) as it heals up. Just think of all the weeks of the fun you have to look forward to!
Fortunately I got to do the whole bowel prep thing at home just before going to the hospital. It's no fun either lol

I *dred* bowel prep. I've heard plenty of stories about it. Do. Not. Want.
Curved dilators? I'm down with that! :P
Shared room? Oh hell no. I'm planning on a private room.
Congratulations and good luck! :)
shared rooms are no ifs and buts in the hospital.. but when you come for srs.. during your stay in the covalnescene you can request a private room ahead.
i got a private room right now.. but tomorrow its the last of my privateness for 2 days then im back inside here loool
so yeah...
and yea the dilators are from soul source enterprise. as well as being hard they are also kinda heavy a bit and sound like pieces of wood knocking into each other.
OK Sara, best of luck with everything tomorrow. I'd get some sleep if I were you, you may be the first act tomorrow. :)

I'm loving those dialators! And yes, I'm definitely not looking forward to the super powered laxatives.. Eeek! :) But it's well worth those hours in the bathroom!
I wish you had put something beside them for size comparison. They look HUGH. OMG. They are going WHERE? :o
six surgeries over last 2.5 years and single rooms for five of them - perhaps because the staff see me as MtF with male genitals so the women patients might get upset to have me in shared room? - so at last one I insisted on a shared room and was in a 4 bed room and it was very nice to chat to the other three women as we all went and returned for surgery and woke up and were sick and so on. :D
My srs will be done one day in a London clinic with single rooms.
At this time SaraR is post-op
good recovery.
tank you for the picture posted.
I had a colonoscopy last year so I kind of know what the bowel prep is all about. Fun fun
Even pre my 2nd stage Labip work last Tues i opted for a self bowel douche as a sensible precaution at 4:30am!!!
Had to be at hospital for 5:30.... as when scalpels go in you need always to be uber bug free....and with bugs such as cDif, MRSA out there.....every little helps...
Yipppe on day 8 the catheter finally came out.... so finally on my way back to some form of normality....
This means I'll see the Grand Canyon come Sat!!
i keep gasing it o9ut right now which isnt too cool but i guess its all in good fun
Yeah, the bowel prep is a pain in the er "caboose", that's for sure. But it is such a wonderful pain knowing that your surgery is just hours away.
I have the same set of dilators. My partner calls them my numchucks because they are so hard and heavy. I can regularly use the first three, but "Big John" as I call the fourth one, is really hard to use and I only occasionally will go through the extra effort to dilate to that size. Also, if you think about it, you'll probably never run into a guy like that.

Be careful what you wish for....eh?
And in Arizona....you never know what you might run into out there in the desert of an evening!

ahahahaha Owies!
Weird question.... Why would you need to have a bowel prep for Srs???

Weird question.... Why would you need to have a bowel prep for Srs???
Because for about 4 or 5 days afterwards you are trussed up like an Xmas turkey and there is simply NO WAY that you could go without soiling your bandages. Plus the passing of a bowel movement in that time poses two very specific and serious risks.
1. cross infection from the bacteria in the stool and 2. tearing of internal stiches that hold the skin graft in place due to tensing of the muscles in that area.
Quote from: Dee_pntx on September 19, 2010, 08:30:52 AM
Also, in the case that a mistake is made and the intestinal tract is damaged, you do NOT want the bacteria from POO leaking around inside you! That could be fatal.
Ok thanks for clearing that up.
But after a bowel prep you would usually still go 2-3 days after. Im guessing you have to fast a few days before the srs then??
Sorry for these questions just wondering, because ive had bad stomech issues all my lifes and ive had close to 20 of these bowel prep things and I don't understand how they would stop you going to the toilet for 5 days...
