Title: The first changes you get from T.
Post by: Elijah3291 on September 18, 2010, 01:02:57 AM
I will be seeing an endo on monday, and I am crossing my fingers that I will get my first shot.

So, for anyone who is on T, what were your experiences? What things did you notice changing, how fast (or slow) did they come?

Also, while waiting for those changes, did your mind/body feel at ease being on 'the right fuel'? Did you feel more confident, more horny, more comfortable having the T in your system?

Some of it depends on genetics, some of it depends on whether you have a hysto or on blockers, the amount, etc...

Downstairs junk overnight. That was pretty fast, but I wouldn't say it grows to full size right away obviously. The other changes I have I think are mostly genetic and hormone blockers and levels related in terms of how fast they came. I don't really notice changes that much anymore, I'm either not being observant or they're slowing down.

My brain did feel better being on the right fuel, but the initial shots at the beginning were a bit rough. When the hormones change in your body, that's when you get mood swings, so it's only natural you might have a bit of a 'shock' the first month while you adjust. I notice a lot of guys get sick or have cold after their first couple of shots so they disregard a voice drop, but I don't think they're always unrelated. I think it's just your body's initial reaction sometimes.

I would say that my changes have been coming along relatively fast in comparison to other FTMs I've observed. There are some things I wish would hurry up(I'm a bit impatient after waiting a loooooooong time) but I'm doing good for where I'm at.

I can't answer this since I'm not on T yet, but I'm interested to see the answers as well.

And congrats on being this close!  Hope you get your shot on Monday!

I was only on it for 2 months before I decided it wasn't for me, so I'm not exactly a good judge of it (I don't believe my experience is "typical" at all), but I thought I'd just throw my 2 cents in for reference. First shot, it made me feel weird for lack of a better word. I had trouble focusing on even everyday things. That feeling lasted for days. Also, any little thing would piss me off, like I was on edge. Every shot after that my brain just turned into sex brain. But it wasn't a normal kind of horny either - it was like wild and reckless horny. Definitely not something I was expecting. I normally have low blood pressure too (like 110/70 or lower) and I was up over 130 on the stuff. The second month I only had one shot and still did not feel right so I said, that's it. My own personal theory was that I have a higher level of T than "normal" females so adding to it just sent me over the top. It's about the only logical explanation I can think of since everyone else seems to feel ok or have minor symptoms.

First noticeable change will be your voice.. might not drop fast, but it will be the first thing you probably notice. Also as Lachlann said, downstairs grew a lot the first couple weeks then not as crazy, for me anyway. Hairs on the back of your leg will probably come in, fine, but still they grow in. those would be the first changes to look for in the first month or so.

I definitely felt more horny and sexually forward.

Ive only been on T for a little over 6 weeks so that's all i can really answer for you.

Good luck with your appointment.

Definitely my voice.  And an increase in horniness.  All of the other changes were gradual.  But I felt calm, zen, and finally like myself.

My personal experiences were:
Dick growth happened overnight and there was alot more.. sensitivity.
After about the first week, I became alot more aggressive and horny and irritable, but the aggression and irritability were found to be caused by being on the wrong dose of t per week.
My voice took it's first real drop after about a month
That's about it for "firsts" I think

Good luck with getting the shot!

Am I wrong in reading some doubts here?
What if the T doesn't heal your mind/body dysphoria?

i had my second shot this last tuesday.

so far, apart from the inconvenient soreness that seems to come with getting pricked in the butt, there are a few minor things that i've noticed.

-oiliness.  ew, gross.  i have oil seeping out my pores, i swear.
-junk.  sensitive would be the right word.  i've been almost sexually numb for as long as i can remember, so this was a real shock.  a nice shock.
-voice.  it hasn't dropped at all, but i do feel it settling much more easily to a lower pitch sometimes.
-appetite.  i've always snacked all day, but now i want to eat anything and everything in the house.

other than that, i do feel good.  my heart rate goes off the chart right after my shots, and i just feel on top of the world.

Two weeks in is when I really noticed changes.

I was no longer having anxiety attacks. I felt calm and could think clearly, and my moods evened out. I felt peaceful and my temper was no longer unpredictable. But I did not lose my ability to feel emotions at all, I was just in much better control of myself.

Downstairs growth was noticeable between week 2 and 3. This is also when my libido evened out; it went from fluctuating between zero and 10 depending on where I was in the month, to just being a consistent 7. (I wanted to clarify, compared to fluctuating libido when on female hormone levels which of course fluctuate due to monthly cycles)

Muscle growth/strength increase was distinct at week 3. Voice was also noticeably changing at this point although it did not do a real drop until week 5.

And yeah, through all of this my appetite has increased dramatically and I've also lost my life-long insomnia; in fact, I can sleep whenever I want and seem to need a lot more of it.

I noticed dick growth within the first 2 days. Hair growth after a week. My voice took about 3 weeks to start changing.

My first signs were downstairs. After a day or two, my junk started to...twitch. I guess it was already growing a bit, but it never grew all that much. My second sign was horniness. Five days in (my existing T level was low, so maybe that's why it took that long), I woke up with a raging lust. Unfortunately, I was scheduled to meet my therapist in a few hours, and I already had the hots for him. That was interesting, to say the least.

I also noticed that I was lubricating. For my entire adult life, I have had a problem with dryness down there. Not anymore.

I think after that, my throat started to tickle. My voice went down a bit in the first month, but subtly--I could tell, and my therapist could tell, and some of my trans friends noticed, but most people didn't hear the shift. (Of course, it kept dropping, but I didn't make it into baritone range until nearly eighteen months after I started.)

I did have a surge in aggressive and competitive behavior pretty quickly. I've always been pretty passive, but I found myself wanting to get ahead in traffic and win friendly arguments with my best friend. It took me quite some time to get that under control. I'm much better now.

My appetite did not change, but I was eating a lot of meat because of food sensitivities. Since then, I've noticed that I get hungry pretty quickly when I haven't had enough protein. So unless you're a vegetarian, eat your meat!

Most of my buddies started getting acne almost immediately. That didn't happen to me. In fact, my facial skin didn't start getting noticeably oilier right away, maybe because I've always had severely dry skin and eczema. Now my skin is tougher. My nose, forehead, and chin are oilier. But all of that took quite a while to happen.

For most of my friends, the first month brought increased appetite, increased sex drive, increased acne, a tickly throat, and a small voice change.

I don't understand what your problem is and why you're continuously harassing him.  You don't know him and you're not friends with him. You don't know a person based on what they post online.

BTW Idk why you seem to think he's making this massive irrational decision, considering he has been in therapy

I'm going to agree with alex408 on this. I feel like you spend a lot of time singling him out even though you don't know him at all. He's asking what he should expect while on T; he's NOT asking you to find hidden meanings (real or imagined) in everything he says.  :(

I am putting on my moderator hat. I was hoping that this post would go unnoticed. No such luck.

Bluetraveler: generally speaking, these are legitimate questions to ask someone who is deciding whether to start T--especially someone who is asking for input about that decision--but Elijah has made his decision. He is not in the questioning stage, at least with respect to his first T shot, and at this point, he is only asking about the effects of HRT. This is the second time you've singled him out over everyone else, and you only have a few posts to begin with. I can see that you care, but this sort of thing gets old very quickly. Please stop now.

Everyone else who is responding to Bluetraveler, take a deep breath. You're doing a great job of watching out for your brother, but I don't want this thread to turn into a slugfest.

And here's MY answer to Bluetraveler's questions as they apply to ME. First of all, some doubt is normal. I had no doubts whatsoever that I had to start T. I did, however, have my doubts about how long I would stay on it and whether I would be happy with ALL of the changes it brought--both to my body and to my life. I cannot speak for Elijah, of course, but lots of people have some doubts about starting T. The nice thing is that they can stop if they find out that it isn't right for them. One of the guys right here in this thread did that.

Second, T alone did not solve my own mind vs body dysphoria. Top surgery went a long way in helping. I expect that therapy and/or other surgeries will take care of the rest. Again, I cannot speak for Elijah or anyone else. But for me, T is only part of the equation. It saved my life, and it has a similar effect for many others.

For me, the psychological change was subtle. I don't know that there was a chemical change that said, "This is the right stuff," but there was definitely an emotional change that said that. The longer I was on T, the more I felt that staying on it was a foregone conclusion and the absolute right thing to do.

First was voice. Started changing at 13 days...eased off around 2 months, and my voice is comparable to darth vader now.

I'm much calmer and less dysphoric than I used to be. I definitely feel more at ease knowign my body isn't going to transform into anything not male anymore. And my sex drive is insane...think spontaneous erections all the time, but I don't mind it.

Growth happened in the first 2/3 days and voice started changing within the first week also. Chest and stomach hair sprouted.

It made me calmer to know that the T was in my system and that I was starting to go in the right direction.

For me the first changes I noticed was darker and coarser hair on my lower legs and arms.  Then my voice started changing and really dropped about 5 months in.  The last thing (and what I'm still working on after 2 years) is facial hair and chest hair.   Congrats and good luck!

Even the first day I got my shot I immediately felt more confident and more complete, it was a great feeling knowing I was starting my journey :)

yea, these were what I was curious about, wondering if while waiting for physical changes, if you could feel better emotionally, at least until the other stuff came around.

Thanks guys

Honestly Elijah, I couldn't imagine my life without T now. The longer I'm on it the better I feel. Even if you start on a low dose and the changes are mild to start with, I think you'll know within the first couple of months whether T will help to ease your dysphoria or not.

Honestly I got a bit of a rush on the first shot. It has definitely improved my mood and made difficult things easier to deal with as I'm going through the whole process.

It could be from having the right fuel or the physical changes, or it could be that it's one less thing to worry about.

I find it interesting and very telling that people who do not id as trans who are given cross sex hormones for whatever medical reason do not like the way it makes them feel, and think. Depression is a comon side effect for the cisgender when given the very same HRT drugs that help a transsexual feel normal.
