Title: Height
Post by: Icephoenyx on December 14, 2006, 08:33:42 PM
Well that's great to hear that MtFs shrink! I hope I do when I start hormones. I am 6'1" and love heels...I hate it. It's the worst when you're trying to fit in and all the girls are midgets compared to you... :(

I was 5 foot 12 inches, but have lost 2 inches being on HRT for 8 years now.

When I used to measure myself I was always a little over 6'1" I think. Last time I was around 6' and 1/2 inch. So it seems like I might have lost around 1/2 inch, but I could also be measuring myself wrong or something. I hope I get shorter.

I've shrunk a bit over that past years but I think that's because I am getting older.  I'm 6 foot even in 3 inch heels.

btw I think tall girls rock!

Isn't shrinking from HRT (of any part of the body) due mostly to loss of muscle mass? If so, than would it be accurate to think that muscular people would shrink the most after starting HRT?

I would love to shrink a little, too (I'm a science major and used to joke with my friend about inventing a shrink-ray), but I wasn't muscular even before starting HRT and don't expect really get any shorter.

Now, I would LOVE to see my upper body (shoulders etc) get a little more compact, but for the same reason as above I don't expect it.

To the best of my knowledge shrinking comes from the disks compressing due to aging and bone loss.  The body grows until about the age of 25 and after that point begins to shrink.  The height loss is unnoticeable at first but after 10-15 years becomes more evident.  I topped out at 5' 8-3/4".  About three years ago (I was 52 then) my kids were measuring themselves (all pretty much fully grown by then) and they asked me how tall I was.  I said 5'8".  My son, who is close to six feet, said no way and insisted on measuring me.  The best I could do was 5' 7".  And that was long before starting HRT.

Women who are menopausal tend to shrink more if they aren't on HRT.  They experience bone loss due to the lack of estrogen in their systems.  I had never heard that HRT causes shrinking before hearing it here.  Based on what I have learned over the years I am skeptical HRT causes shrinking.

It's not that you want to shrink.  It's that you want to blend in without sticking out in society.  I am currently 5'9" (the last time I measured) in bare feet and most of the time, I'm not really that self conscious about my height.  I tend to wear lower healed shoes, mostly because they are more practical and easier to walk in.  The thing is, I didn't slouch or anything, even when wearing shoes that make me 3 inches taller.  Sometimes it's actually nice to be able to reach things that shorter girls aren't able to.  But the thing is, I do blend in and that's the biggest reason I'm not too concerned about my height anymore.  I'll bet you if you passed well, you wouldn't mind being so tall. :D

I know its been touched on already but my feelings are that its all about blending in and how you carry yourself.  I am 5'11" and quite happy in heels as there are girls out there who are taller than I am.  Although for a while I did worry about my height as I feel tall girls do tend to get noticed more.

Although on a more positive note - if you are out clubbing it then getting noticed can be an advantage !!

Another advantage to being taller, is as a woman, you are much less likely to be attacked, because shorter women are generally easier to overpower.

Another old topic resurrected :)

I was a little skeptical when I first read this topic last year so I had a spare moment and decided to measure my height.  Well low and behold I have lost almost and inch in height. - Yay - So I went from 5'8" to 5'7" which would equal a 1" loss.  I explained the math just incase there are others here at Susan's who are as slow as me :)

I think, with regard to losing height while on HRT, your mileage may vary. I haven't lost so much as a 1/4" and have  been on HRT for 9 years. The only lost height came from a slipped disc.

On HRT for some time and had quite a bit of muscle mass.  Still about the same height here.  Which is fine for me because so far my height has been a bonus.  The vertically challenged love to ask me to get stuff off the top shelf in supermarkets.  I am thinking about wearing a cape.  ;)

Oh that is funny.  I'm 5'9", but I still do the same thing sometimes.  I love the cape idea. :D

I used to hate being tall. I'm 6'1, but I'm really skinny too... I don't want to concentrate too much on the things I can't change.

I have a pair of boots and a pair of shoes that I wear like 98% of the time.  Both are low heeled or flat and every once in a while I'll wear heels, but everybody seems to look at me because I end up being so high.

I am between 5'10" and 5'11" and usually have on shoes with a small, chunky heel.  However, there are fetish events and other special occasions where I will strap into 3.25" heels.  cannot afford the really tall ones yet.  It is a lot of fun to look down on everyone, including the guys.  They usually do not mind though since I will usually wear my corset too and it puts my shelf at about the right level for them to stare.   ;D

I recently picked up a pair of boots that are "punkish" and those lift me up about an inch or so.  Leather and I paid a whopping $9 for them.  I love clearance items.

My friend at work complained about being too tall at 5'6" !?!?!!!

How do you react to a natal female that complains about being too tall?  I was speechless for a moment and then changed the subject.  I'm out to her but I think she has never considered that I might feel the same way.

Go figure!!

Yeah, I was in this group and one woman (who was about the same height as me) said she felt like a giant.  I told her I completely understood and felt the same way about myself.

One of the most beautiful girls I have ever seen was about 6'3" tall and at the time had only been dressing for about 6 months.  If you had seen her, more than likely your only thought would have been if she played in the WNBA.

As for me, 5'6" and I always hated it when I was growing up that I was so small.  But then when I started shopping for wardrobe, there seemed to be a MUCH better selection in the Misses department than in the talls.  Now if I could just do something about wearing a women's 11 in shoe size. :'(  I've always worn heels because with flats, it looks like I have this big blob stuck on the bottom of my legs.

Isn't it funny, some of the things that one may hate when growing up?  like height.

For me it was my blonde hair.  There were not too many boys with blonde hair and not only was mine blonde but it was thick as well.  I kept hoping it would turn colour.  of course it never did but now the guys and gals LOVE my hair.  And so do I.  :)

The funny thing is, before transition, I was perfectly happy being only average height.  I never wanted to be any taller or even shorter for that matter.

From my extensive exposures to other forums as well as some of the Yahoo groups I've come to believe that ("excessive") height is a very common characteristic of the TG commumity.  I'm 6' 2" w/o my 5" heels.  I'm sure that makes for a overpowering sight in the clubs I visit.  Nothing I can do about this, so I just live with it and allow the legs to distract from other weak points in my overall appearance.  Given the choice, I probably would not give up any of the height because it works well for the male mode.  I would consider trading a couple of inches of height to a vertically challenged female for a small amount of her "hip padding". lol

I was in a support group recently and, at 5' 6",  was way shorter than anyone else there MTF.  I don't think I'm an unusual height when out en femme.

I already posted a pic in the picture section but it was just of my face and the same pic with crude modifications to make it more feminine.

But, I'm going to post another picture in a month or so, full body, with me in female clothes and the same one with virtual FFS. I don't post full body stuff yet because I don't have any girl clothes and my parents don't know.

But that will change I'm grabbing my best friend, his girlfriend, and possibly my ex-girlfriends to help me pick out some clothes and tell my parents. My best friend owes me big for outing my GID to the school I used to attend and especially for telling a person I hate and who has access to my relatives I don't want to know about this. So he's going weither he likes it or not.

Anyways, for a total pre-op and pre HRT, I think I look pretty decent, but I really need a nose job ASAP. You look pretty good yourself.

5'10" is actually pretty common for genetic women so I don't see your problem there. At 5'9" the only time I ever towered over anyone was while I worked as a temp and I worked with a group of asian women. That was uncomfortable for about 10 minutes.
