"In 1982 I bought the first Depeche record, the first Duran record and, oddly enough, the first Bad Manners record," he says. "But it was the next year when I saw George for the first time that I decided: 'That must be what I should do.' He was the only evidence there was that people like me existed anywhere in the world: artistic, dreaming, manifesting the dreams, having emotions, counter-cultural - transgender."
