Me and my fiancee (MTF) are thinking about moving within the next 9-10 months and were wondering if anybody had any suggestions on TG friendly cities....
Twin Cities - Minnesota ... very friendly & has laws to protect TG folks
Portland, Or. Same reasons.
I love LA. . . but I know it's not for everyone :]
But I'd consider myself decently safe here depending on where you live. Only downer is it's super super expensive.
I like it here in San Francisco. I guess it's common knowledge that this place is pretty accepting. Literally, there are all kinds of people here, being different is considered a good thing, and no one cares whether you're trans or gay or kinky or whatever. It's a good place to live if you want to be yourself and at the same time blend in with the crowd and be considered "normal".
has anybody heard anything about colombia or st louis missouri????? i read a couple places that they are tg/ts friendly and not too expensive....
My daughter goes to school in Columbia, MO. I haven't heard one way or another. However, I do know the University of Missouri has a huge GLBT organization and it does have trans specific stuff

I live just west of Lakeland Fl. in Tampa. There are a lot of rednecks, but also a thriving gay/trans culture. One does need to be discreet. Check out "gaybor", "watermark" do a search on gay St.Pete. My friends from back north are amazed at how hip and gay it is here. St.Pete has the largest gay pride parade in the southeast. Like I said earlier, it tends to be spotty in areas, but I guess that is true everywhere. Lakeland itself always seemed to me to be a bit more conservative but have been seeing stories on it becoming more of an artsy type of a place, at least downtown. You should find all of the services you need here, though you may have to travel. Oh, and Sarasota is very gay and has had a long rich history of it. Hope this helps. Make SURE you google "gay newspaper watermark" they'll set you straight.
Honolulu ^_^ People are just too mellow here to care about issues. I have never lived in a more relaxing place as hawaii. Even the racial tensions you typically feel arent there.
If you were looking at moving overseas I'd say New Zealand. It's really relaxed here. In the city I live in almost every college there is a group for queer and trans teens and there's a youth group for queer and trans people.

Yes, Ma'am! I'm within the Portland city limits. This place ..., it's such a trip! Though either subtropical or tropical climates are my preference, this place more than makes up for the lack of the same. While we do have an establishment here and an educated corporate/churchy/military class, there is a way strong counterculture vibe here. Individuality is not frowned upon here. You just might like it. Very few places have more natural beauty. Better like mountains though. ;)

Chicago there is an area known as boys town that is very gay and trans gender friendly. I plan on moving to Chicago as soon as I can by next spring hopefully.
Where I live has its good and bad (mostly good or neutral) but my employer has been aces when it comes to my transitioning on the job. If anyone gets to central Wisconsin, let me know and I will show you some good places and people.

If you are anywhere Near Tampa/Saint Petersburg/Pinellas Park and you are of the LGBTQ Community, you MUST stop by Christ the Cornerstone Church during their Friday night Cornerstone Cafe Nights or hook up with them for their social events. Pastor Joyce rocks. These are people who will understand you and who you are apt to like. My best to you. ;)
here in Massachusetts we have the wonderful Northampton, ma/Amherst/Hadley/Easthampton areas where there is a HUGE LGBT community. you can be you and not have to worry about anything...and we're only 2 hours from NYC and 1.5 hours from Boston.

Hey, that's great news about your employer. I visited Madison, Wisconsin at the university to see a friend many years ago. Very cool (and cold) place. Liked it a lot.

Anybody know stuff about Galveston, TX? I'm hoping to transfer to a college near there, and I know Texas has a super-conservative reputation, but could I survive there if I pass full-time?
Galveston has a thriving gay community, dunno how trans-friendly they are down there, though. You can always commute to Houston for trans support meetings if you need to.
You could probably survive it.
As for trans acceptance, UH went through trans acceptance-google the name Josephine Tittsworth...A&M has a slightly more conservative reputation, and if it's UTMB, I can't imagine them caring.
May I suggest an apartment on the second floor if you live on the island? Also hope you don't have any mold allergies-Ike rolled through there.
