WASHINGTON, Oct. 12 - Transgender and gender non-conforming people face rampant discrimination in health care settings, are regularly denied needed care, and experience a range of health risks because they are transgender or gender non-conforming, according to a report of over 6,450 transgender and gender non-conforming people. The National Transgender Discrimination Survey: Report on Health and Health Care was released nationally today by the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force and the National Center for Transgender Equality.
Key findings include:
* Nearly 1 in 5, 19%, reported being refused care outright, because they were transgender or gender non-conforming;
So my wife not wanting to reveal her medical history to doctors...apparently she's RIGHT to do that... :(
Whatever happened to professionalism-that is-treating a person civilly no matter what you think of them, because it's your job??
I really don't understand why people want to conceal medical histories from medical professional. It just baffles me.

Because
you can be refused treatment outright and die?? Just, y'know, a thought, here.
move to a civilised country...or vote socialist.

Face, meet palm.
Nearly 1 in 5, 19%, reported being refused care
That's about the same percentage of people that have absolutely no health care coverage at all. I'd love to see all the other variables in this study, because I'll be it doesn't have as much to do with being trans, as it does with being poor.

It baffles most people who refuse to accept that it happens. People who dismiss reports of such incidents by assuming 'there must be more to it'.
These situations happen, not just to transgender people, but to others also.
They occur because Drs know they are above the law.
It is a small number who behave in this way, but I have never yet found any Dr who was prepared to take a position against them, even though I have been told, privately, by a few that they know what is happening.
Refusal to act is the same as the act itself.

is this acceptable?
If you think it isn't acceptable, there's a "report to moderator" link at the bottom of every post.
