Hey guys, im wondering if any of you ladies are from va or familiar with VA rules when it comes to changing the gender in your driver's license... I went to try to change it before and i brought my therapist letter that states that i have GID and that i am preparing for my srs... but the people there said ill have to get the procedure done first before they can change it... i did hear from other people that it doesnt matter, that they should be able to change it just with the letter and not having to undergo SRS. personally, i think its insane that u have to get ur SRS dones first... what if you are a non-op that doesnt want to take the high risk and also high cost of such a serious procedure? does that mean shell never be seen as a woman by law? crazy!
You should contact the DMV directly. In Oregon while it is not on the DMV website, one can change gender with a letter from your therapist.
it can be done pre surgery with a letter by your srs surgeon stating the pending surgery, report by a medical provider about current treatment, and a court order telling the DMV to change it.
after surgery it isn't much easier :| (still involves the court).
edit: spelling
If I'm not mistaken, you have to do your birth certificate first. Which is the same process as Flan said. Try poking around on google :)
Tsroadmap has a great section on this. Both DL and BC for all 50 States.
I still have trouble getting my head around the idea that a Driver's Licence shows gender. I was in the Police for 30 years, and as long as it was valid, and the photo matched the person, I can't see the point.
I would be more interested in any outstanding warrants etc if I pulled someone over. But then again America is supposedly the 'Land of the Free', and Australia is still one of those old fashioned constitutional monarchies. ;)
