Title: Changing name on high school diploma/transcripts
Post by: AnitaLife on October 18, 2010, 01:15:23 PM
Hi, just wondering if anyone has done this and what their experience was?  I had most of my official documents changed 15 years ago after my GRS (license, social security), and was able to attend college afterwards as female (i'm MTF) with no problems whatsoever.  But I didn't finish my degree (lost interest in my major, also was dealing with social anxiety issues), and it's been 10 years since i've been in college.

Recently, i've thought about going back to community college to get an associate's degree, but it seems all the local ones I want to attend require high school transcripts, or proof of GED.  Even though I have college transcripts, they still want my high school ones, which seems a little redundant (because, like, doesn't the fact that I attended college mean I graduated from high school/have a GED?).

Of course, I could just bite the bullet and give them my high school transcripts, along with my court order for name change, in the process outing myself to the new college, but i'd rather avoid that if possible.  Just wondering if anyone's had success in going back and changing their high school transcripts and what the process involves, TIA!

I don't know about high school but my university changes were really easy. I filled a form out and the office changed my name on all my records. I also had to show proof of my name change (I used my SS card). Then I filled a form out to get a new diploma with my new name- which actually came today. :)

Phone your high school and see what they say. You'll probably have to fill out some forms, show proof of your old name and your new name.

My high school refused to change my records or my diploma. I'm in California, and it was a public school. Could you just take the GED and only use the diploma as a backup? It might be easier than fighting with your school...unless they don't put up a fight.

There is at least one other thread on this--you might want to look it up.

I'll be interested to hear how things go. Good luck!
