Title: Sex Change Surgical Options
Post by: tinkerbell on December 20, 2006, 10:25:42 PM
QuoteIn the perception of the media and the public, a male-to-female transsexual (MTF) is a man who's had sex re-assignment surgery (SRS, also often rather inaccurately called gender re-assignment surgery - GRS) on his/her genitalia. In fact for some transsexual women this is not the case, there are many transsexuals who happily live, work and socialise as women, but who never have sex re-assignment surgery or at least delay it for many years.

It's inaccurate, because GRS stands for Genital Reconstructive Surgery.  In that case it is just as accurate.

True.  But I've heard some people refer to it as "gender reassignment surgery"....and IMO, that definition is wrong as well, for it is not your gender what you are changing but your anatomical sex. ;)

I've always called it Gender Reassignment Surgery.  I always have hated the terms transsexual, sex change, and sex reassignment.  But the one I have resorted to use in the medical office is "sex change".  I never have to repeat that one or explain what it means.

I have always called it Gender Reassignment Surgery. I never liked Sex Reassignment Surgery as I was not reassigning my sexual orientation.  I guess I could say the same for Gender too. I am not reassigning my gender either. I like Genital as I really did take care of the problem. I reassigned my genitals. They are right with me now. Thank you Melissa for the terminology.

The article seemed like a compilation of several articles/studies/opinions.  I wasn't really sure where it was going.  There didn't seem to be a clear focus.

As far as genital surgery, GRS, SRS, I don't care, just as long as I can have it done and it's done properly.
