The defendant, Akira Jackson, was born David Gavin in Detroit but has identified as a woman since age 19. She cooperated with police when they arrested her at the home of the victim, Alan Gray, 56.

A 24-year-old Oakland woman was charged Monday in the fatal stabbing of a Walnut Creek man during a lovers' quarrel in the man's Santa Rita Drive home.

Akira Tajah Jackson, who also has a male alias, was charged Monday in Contra Costa County Superior Court with one count of murder with an enchancement charging the use of a knife, said Deputy District Attorney Barry Grove.

MARTINEZ -- An advocate for Bay Area transgender youths was charged Monday with murder in the fatal stabbing of her off-and-on boyfriend with a kitchen knife.

Akira Tajah Jackson, 24, of Oakland, was arrested in connection with the slaying Thursday of 56-year-old Walnut Creek resident Alan David Gray.
