Title: Binder causing problems with peri?
Post by: trueroo on November 11, 2010, 09:38:38 PM
Hey guys, I've thought about getting chest surgery for a while and have only recently started looking into options.

I'm small enough to qualify for peri (Smaller then an A), but I started wearing a binder recently, and have grown very attached to it and the effect it gives. I don't think it's likely I'd be able to get top surgery within the next year or two, so I'm worried if the binder breaking down the chest tissue will disqualify me for Peri, since that's the one I'd prefer to get.

I'd go and set up an appointment, but like I said, it's very unlikely I'd be able to get the surgery any time soon.
I'm really tentative to give up wearing the binder because it really lessens my dysphoria a lot, but at the same time, if it really ruins my chances of getting peri, I want to know. Have any of you guys gotten peri after wearing a binder? Or does anyone know what point a doctor might disqualify me?

o.k. first off, i don't even know what you mean by peri. I'm guessing it's short term for a specific type of top surgery?

Oops, sorry, I mean the Peri-areolar top surgery. If you look in the sticky for this sub-forum it has a description of it.

Seconding what Kvall said - if you're less than an A, a light binding method should give good results. I'm a C+ and bind with a sports bra on lazy days and pass fine. Other options if you don't like the bra-like feel would include either the Cotton Concealer from Underworks (again, I use it when I want to be comfortable) or a sports compression shirt like Underarmour or something. Anything that's made of cotton/Lycra or similar fabric will work for small chests without damaging tissue.
