We protested last night in front of the British Consulate, New York, because a very alarming situation is happening in the UK. A transphobic DVD named "FIT" has been approved to show children and youth in public schools. The anti-transsexual slur "tra**y" is being used, which is used as a taunt and insult when bullies and bigots harass people perceived to be transsexual, intersex or gender non-conforming. The protest was presented by Media Advocates Givivng National Equality to Transsexual & Transgender People (MAGNET) and International Foundation for Gender Education (IFGE). MAGNET's press release: www.themagnetsource.blogspot.com/2010/11/protest-of-stonewall-uks-bullying.html (http://www.themagnetsource.blogspot.com/2010/11/protest-of-stonewall-uks-bullying.html)
Stonewall UK is behind the messaging in the PSA. We chose last night to protest to coincide with the Stonewall Awards in London, which took place last night as well.
Stonewall UK is in the pocket of the feminist nazis.
Quote(verbal abuse is still abuse and sometimes hurts more than stones).
At the risk of contrdicting, verbal abuse hurts a lot more.
It marginalises, it isolates, it encourages more abuse, it incites violence.
I'd have to see the context. It's supposedly an anti-bullying video, and the complaint seems to be merely that the offending word is used in it. There's no indication of who uses it - we don't know if it's a bully, or if it's a victim, or if it's an authority figure or "model" kids are supposed to respect. I'd suggest that if it were the latter, the protesters' case would be better if that were made clear in the protest literature.
This link is to some trailers. http://www.stonewall.org.uk/at_school/education_for_all/quick_links/education_resources/fit/4037.asp (http://www.stonewall.org.uk/at_school/education_for_all/quick_links/education_resources/fit/4037.asp)
If you look at the video, all the characters fit in with an ideal, fit, sporty, young, beautiful, well balanced.
The reality is that many gay people are despirately lonely and isolated. Not always pretty. Not necessarily young. Often burdoned with neurosies and other consequences of lonliness.
Didn't see any Muslims either. (Can risk offending the Muslims now).
The problem with Stonewall UK is that it is a sub group of the Labour Party. The party that seeks social division, be it based upon race, class, disability. Just as long as people are beautiful and well balanced and sporty.
Like all the Labour sub groups, they avoid any conflict with other sub groups. To our cost, that includes the feminists.
The priority of the Labour Party is power. They care little for any of the causes they claim to support. They support causes that bring the maximum support.
The feminists have huge support among many women. Most women would be utterly shocked if they knew that prominent feminists were attempting to have western female fashion categorised as equal to FGM. Most women don't support the denigation of men. Nevertheless, most women buy the feminists because they buy the claims that only the feminists prevent a return to so called days of female oppression.
Stonewall UK has made its policies toward transgendered people well known. They don't see us as being in any way, similar to them. They don't support us against bullying. They regularly support people and ideas that seek to denigate us.
They do that to maintain the support they get from the feminists.
I do hope you can see the video some time soon. It certainly won't offer any support to transgendered people. Even if references to silly words like ->-bleeped-<- are only casual, and I don't personally have any serious issues with words like ->-bleeped-<- in themselves, the policies and character of Stonewall UK are clear.
