Title: Growing muscles hurts!
Post by: kyril on November 14, 2010, 04:43:30 PM
Just need to whine a little bit. I started having some pain in my upper chest about a week ago, thought it was from binding, so I backed off and stuck with sports bras and soft binding methods - I haven't bound harshly in over a week. But it kept getting worse, there's been this tightness  on either side of my sternum a couple inches below my collarbone, and it's really quite painful. Anyway, I figured out why today - I now apparently have pectoral muscles growing into that area for the first time ever. The muscles themselves don't hurt (much...there's some light soreness from working out) but it seems like the bones they're attached to are aching.

I'm too old for growing pains!

Oh yeah, the growing pains were NOT something I expected when I started T. But wow, I was incredibly sore as my muscles bulked up. I gained 20 lbs of muscle weight in my first 2.5 months on T. Just past the 3 month mark now and the pain is easing up a lot, so I think the initial rush is over. But wow, for a while there... my aching chest, sides, back, shoulders.

I used to have to be very careful when stretching or taxing my muscles because if I overdid it--and it didn't always take much--the muscle would cramp. Dramatically painful calf cramps, thigh cramps, butt cramps. Even in the belly area--I gained a lot of muscle there. Things got better when I upped my fluid intake, but I still had problems.

I'm kind of sorry I didn't have this effect in my chest and biceps. I didn't gain nearly enough muscle in those areas. Sigh.

I had really "bad" growing pains the first few months I was on T. Then they stopped and then I got them again probably around 9 months.

Agreeing on the cramps. If I over-stretch or bend a little weirdly I immediately cramp up, which sucks because hair growth means itches and that requires stretching/twisting/bending.

I must say that i'm jealous of you guys getting growing pains and the putting on weight due to muscle...I've been on T for a ayear and a half and never had any growing pains, nor have I put on any muscle or gained weight  :-\  Kinda sucks seeing I have a small frame.

Josh, you might be like my ex--an extreme ectomorph. Or maybe you will start to fill out later in life. Not fat, I mean, but mature development. You're very young yet.

Sorry, Josh :( My genes say I'm going to get pretty big (male relatives built like unusually-tall linebackers, one of the results of crossing Scots with Vikings) and I'm also lifting/working out to encourage the process. If you come from a family of guys with slighter builds, you might just end up being a slender guy, which is fine too. Or you might just be one of the guys who can't put on weight till they hit 30.

Mine were way more intense when I transitioned. I didn't have these sudden cramps when I was a teenager. Heck, I am still a little cautious about stretching.

Can't say, I didn't have growing pains as a teenager.

My growing pains as a teen felt different, they were more bone/joint related as I recall. I ended up at 5'10", and my long bones were always aching. This was more like intense muscle soreness and stiffness, akin to what you feel if you do a hard workout after a long period of inactivity, mingled with the feel of muscle pulls/cramps. I was getting intense shoulder aches, back aches, that kind of thing. I kept careful body measurements from pre-T too, which has helped me track that growth.

My endo told me that the amount of muscle I packed on is unusual, but not abnormal. It's a mix of genetics and all of the weight lifting/training I did prior to starting T. I wasn't allowed to do any working out during my first 2 months on T (surgery recovery), either, so it was just hormonal growth. Now I just need to lose my excess fat. A little of it burned off during all of that, but not enough!

This is interesting, because none of that happened to me and yet I've noticeable gained weight via muscle.
