Hi all!
Yesterday I started HRT.
As dosages are specific to each one, and I believe are not allowed in the forums, I will leave those out. I am on Estrogens.
Instead of premarin, I am taking Estrin, which is a generic brand for the same product.
I did some research on the Internet, and it seems like the problem with premarin generics are the speed factors at which the E is delivered into the body, but not really about side-effects (if the speed is not considered a side effect).
I have not found much information on estrin, other than the one from the manufacturer. I was wondering if anyone has any opinion about it... if they were prescribed to them, or if anyone has had any bad or good experiences with it.
Best!!!!!

I seemed to do okay on premarin.
Well... it seems like I will be the only one posting about my experience with Estrin.
So far... so good. I am on my second day with it, low dosage. Only E, no P, no antiT.
Best!!!
So far not much to report.
I had from time to time some heartburns... I think that those are a little bit more common now... but I cannot be sure they are due to Estrin.
One day that I took my pills much earlier (like only 16 hours difference, instead of 24 hours), reaching what would be a more "normal" dose, I had the nipples more sensitive than usual for a couple of days... not any more, though.
My weight is kind of stuck in 187lbs... (I am about 6,2 -6,3, sot it's not bad... but still would love to lower it up to around 180lbs... )
I am working on reducing food portions and also doing some exercise...
Other than that... I cannot think of anything else related to the HRT.
I will start probably in one week or so on a low dosage of T blocker... and I am looking forward to see how that will feel...
Kisses!!
Anna
I've never heard of Estrin, but it's apparently a generic conjugated estrogen. Premarin is a brand name conjugated estrogen. I'm sure you already know that though.
The whole deal with generics is that they are equal substitutes to the brand name medication with the exact same formulation, since its patent has now expired. There seem to be a lot of people who are afraid to use generics. In reality it's the same thing, but it costs less. Think generic foods: costs less, tastes the same. Generics are perfectly fine, and would not be prescribed/would not exist if that were not so. I might be very wrong, but this is my take on the issue.
If Estrin is causing heartburn, then standard Premarin will probably not be any better. Also, antacids can interact with medications, and can alter the potency (I paraphrasing from a package of Tums). Be careful.
Thanks!
As a matter of fact, the heartburn disappeared. I guess I was getting paranoid :)
It looks like it's a generic, but apparently, all generics for Premarin are supposed to not be exactly equal in terms of how fast the hormones are delivered to the body... but I don't think that is a risk... but rather, a "legal" thing to avoid letting other brands call it a generic for premarin, and frighten the public...
So far, so good, BTW. Not noticeable side effects, and so far, I have been able to reduce my weight to about 3-4 lbs. Stll, about 4 lbs more to loose... more or less...
Also, some muscle has been lost... mainly in the chest area, but I also stopped going to the gym... so I cannot be sure about the reason behind it.
