Title: Where do you get your T?
Post by: Morgan on November 16, 2010, 01:46:24 PM
I finally got all this doctor crap worked out, so now I'm going to a free transgender clinic (Why my therapist didn't send me there in the first place is beyond me -rage-) so I know I'm going to have enough for my prescription now, but, where to get it from?

The receptionist assured me that they try to make it so their patients can go to walmart and get the 4$ prescriptions, but I've looked up every version and method of T out there on their search function, and none of it is covered. So I think she was referring to MTF hrt, not FTM. (She didn't know which I was, just that I was trans. We were on the phone)

I know T is anywhere from 100$ at the most to 30$ or lower if insurance covers it. And I know the price varies depending on where you get it.

So since so many of us are starting T around the same time, where do you guys get your prescription filled?
(I can't use stroheckers Rx, they don't ship to VA. Poo D: )

I get mine from the Apothecary Shoppe, well I used to, now that I am using gel I just get it from CVS. They shipped it right to my house. It was about 80 for generic and about 95 for name-brand if they run out of generic. That includes syringes and needles.

Yeah, they can't ship to Arizona, Tennessee, Virginia and North Carolina. They insisted that they CANNOT, rather than will not. :(

Is that $100 a month or $100 per bottle that lasts you a while?

I've heard that Fenway Health's Pharmacy is fairly inexpensive. One guy gets his 10 mL vial for around $30 but I don't know if he has insurance or not. They also have free shipping.

I use Strohecker's now but for the first two months I used Fenway and yes they DID accept my insurance. My doctor was surprised that they did.

I can't get Strohecker's, but how much did it cost you at Fenway? And what was your insurance? I have Aetna, and I've tried looking up their policies but they only mention SRS, not HRT..

I called Fenway today...I do not have insurance. They dispense a month's supply at a time as opposed to one big bottle (is this vague enough about dosage?). My doctor had prescribed me more than a month's worth aaaand Fenway said they could ship me a month's worth every month. The shipping is free and the cost per month (for what I'm taking) is $11.

Are you taking a low dose and going up, Nygeel? $11 is a really good price, that would make it $55 for a 5 month supply, which is good, if what you're taking is not a low dose starter script of T.

I don't know if my dose is low but I would guess that it's probably a "regular dose."
