Climbing, MTBing, down hill skate boarding...you know, the kind of stuff that sets your heart racing and just makes you feel like wow!
Did you do this stuff pre transition and carry on or have you started post transtion...or even did you do it pre transition and then stop and if so why?
I'm just interested because I've just bought myself a new longboard and a freebord (it's like a snow board for the road) and while I used to do both a long time ago, i've now started again post transition and I can't see myself stopping....there's just a kind of fierce joy to be had carving a nice bit of road...it's such a rush, but really different to how i remember it being, and yeah i absolutely love the sense of freedom it brings.
Does anybody else have similar experiences?
Skiing and dinghy sailing, and equine thangs are probo the most risky i do...
And all i've enjoyed throughout ma life.... riding more so now.... love horses!
I used to do a lot of sport when I was young but the only one I stuck with was skateboarding which I did until I fractured a finger and broke an ankle (16)... not because I sucked but because ........ I'll spare the details :P ..actually ok the first (finger) a dog was involved (don't ask) and the ankle was from having to jump out of the way of another person who fell off making me land on the edge of a support beam rolling my ankle.
It was never the same after that and I slowly cut back, switching to filming it more until I stopped around 22. I still enjoy watching it and I think it's an underrated skill.
I saw a video on downhill mountain biking not long a go and it looked fun but I don't know.. I think walking and running are more my speed these days. The whole hurting myself side of it is more of a concern than it was before.
Though I have thought about skating again just to see if I've lost it... I've only got video footage of me doing it as the old me it would be cool to have video of it as me now, same deal with music. ...it was such a big part of my life and how I can't mention/prove it without outing myself.. unless I go back for another round.. which I do want to perhaps in a year or so when my life is back on track.
I used to short board as well, but just lacked the drive to perfect any trick harder than an ollie...it can be quite an aggressive sport at times, especially with the throwing yourself down stairs, drop offs and at rails and all I really wanted to do was cruise and go down hills really quickly. Which is why I graduated to long boards and other down hill skate boards. I've just built myself a new board and have been out for a fair part of the day riding, i just love the freedom of carving down a road with my head phones in. You should start again, I'd forgotten just how much I missed it until I met my G/F earlier in the year and we started chatting about longboarding.

I used to love skiing and vert skateboarding, but my joints just can't handle it anymore. Pretty lame! I think swimming will still be alright, though not nearly as "exteme."
She's beautiful isn't she, though I have no idea why i'm sure it's a her...possibly due to the fact she's a pin tail, pin tails are always so sexy. ;D
The thing is, I'm already thinking little thoughts like...maybe i could get another one...you know, more for getting about town and commuting. i might try some different wheels though, something a bit harder so i can try and learn to slide.
I ski, cross country mountain bike, and rock climb. I sail too but not that much anymore (though gybing a kite at duck dodge while simultaneously tecate-ing might be considered "extreme" by some).
I will never ever ever stop climbing. Most of my energy outside of school and transition will be spend pluggin' cams! I have a huge hit list of alpine climbs with ski descents this spring. Watch out north cascades!
Skiing might take a serious blow because I cant afford a pass at all for the next few years (yay grad school), but I did manage to score an AT setup, so the backcountry will be raged as long as the snowpack is stable. I will mooch day passes as I can, but resort skiing is just too pricey.
So yeah I've stopped some sports, but that has nothing to do with being trans. Surfing would be weird for a while though haha.
Edit: I tele ski too but my right knee hates me when I do it.
I tried a few years ago to skateboard, because I was in the skater group of friends, were most of them did skate. I was hopless though :P But I no alot of girls who skate, so if I enjoyed it I could not see myself stopping. But I just prefer to watch :P
I used to love rollerblading and could do some very minor tricks. I'd love to start that up again soon :)
Other than that, I guess I just stuck to more traditional sports. Soccer (football outside U.S.) and swimming were the two I used to participate in.
When I was a teen I used to skateboard. I could "drop in" which is use the steep half pipe ramps properly.
Ollie. Whitch is a right of passage really you weren't really regarded as a skateboarder if you couldn't do this move.

I could also Board-slide which is this move.

That was my favorite the round rails were always so smooth the point of contact with the board is like 0.5cm and you just had to spread your arms as you shoot along so fast it feels like your flying. It also made your skateboard look well ridden and "loved" very quickly.
And despite me practicing for years I could NEVER learn to kick-flip ;)
After I got tired with that I got involved with some people and became a very animated "urban explorer" basically jumping across rooftops and things to get photographs of places that people otherwise wouldn't ever reach and otherwise take photos from the top of huge abandoned buildings. Although technically trespassing Security generally didn't even bother to chase you they couldn't they weren't brave enough too lol
Games Workshop Gap (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V2AP41sdnzI#)
I can say I've made that jump :D
When I was a teen I raced motocross for a few years but had to stop due to back injuries. Other than that I have never done any other kind of sports. Today about the most extreme I get is wrestling with my two dogs.

I could never kickfip either; I flicked my back ankle in a weird way doing it, and could never correct myself. Learned varial kickflips in like two days though. Heelflips were pretty easy as well.
I used to do boxing, judo, MMA... the sort, during my denial phase.
I kicked everyone's asses for a while :P Was fun... i'm past that phase though.
Missed the real skateboard by a few years, but I've been riding a bike since I was 7 pretty much uninterrupted. I'm on #8 now. I was in the first group of people to start screwing up their bike to try and get it to ride the fire roads and trails in the area. We have one of the worlds best mtn Bike Parks in Santa Rosa (200 feet to1,400 feet) most of the trails are black diamond. I'm old enough to remember when bikes had the complete run of Mount Tam, out to the coast and down to the Bridge. I go out there a few times a week, I'm not killing myself or anything, and there are a couple of trails (some of which were faint paths when I started up there, like Rough-Go, that I won't ride anymore. I can, I just don't see the point. But Lawndale trail is 2.9 miles long and goes from about 490-500 feet to 1320, it's physical climb - or a buzzbomb going the other way. And people consider mnt biking extreme, I don't. Street riding in downtown San Francisco in mid-day traffic is extreme. Climbing is extreme if you're going freestyle, not so much with ropes and safety equipment. I ski (I can ski very fast on an advanced/intermediate trails, with a smoke in one hand, a martini in the other and never miss a beat or spill a drop, I can ski harder stuff if I have to, but you have to use poles, no martini). Skiing is extreme if your going off cliffs, jumping huge cornices, running chutes in the High Sierra, skiing out of bounds or off limits, or heli, but most skiing is as extreme as a shopping trip to the mall. But I get up to Squaw and Heavenly in the winter on a regular basis. I don't climb much anymore except doing shows, sold the motorcycles years and decades ago now, and try to avoid fights when possible.

I have been riding motorcycles since I was 15, so I guess I am too old to give up now.
I started to get into ice-skating but have had to put that on hold as the local rink closed early this year. Hopefully there will be a replacement as the only other in the state is a 2 hour ride from here and a bit expensive.
Have been thinking of getting back into surfing or stand-up paddle boards if I move back to the coast after transition.
