Just trying to start a fight curious what my fellow non-binary types think of the gender selector for our profiles here. I'm having trouble deciding what symbol to pick, since neither of them are really what I want to express, and I do see them as just an avenue for personal expression. I currently have nothing selected, which I'm sure could be an interesting statement, but I don't really intend it in that way. I've considered whether "nothing" or no gender is a good description for me, but I think it isn't really.
I've seen a lot of people using the custom title area to express a gender, which I like. It makes me think perhaps gender selectors should be replaced with just a blank, in which one can insert anything reasonably short. What do you fine folk think?
It'd be cool if they had a symbol similar to the top-left of this:

I haven't selected a gender symbol either. Mainly because I would need one that was unique to me. No-one else could use it simply because it wouldn't quite apply to anyone.
While I'm sure Susan is an incredably helpful person, given the thousands of people here, I can't quite see her being prepared to create a specific symbol for one.
So, I opt for a bit of text.
However, I do think some indication is important, give the (understandable) sensitivity some have for gender pronouns.
I have to say I was initially confused on what to put there should I put what I am now or what I want to be/express?.. after some thought decided to put it down as Female as that is what I am on the inside, that is something I have hidden for a long time & I want to world to see me and accept me as who I am and have the freedom to be myself...
Although a custom gender symbol would be nice it (i.e one for MTF and one for FTM to help avoid confusion) would not make much difference as its just a small symbol.. and if we have accepted who we are chances are we would still prefer Male or Female ... difference it is we who are deciding ..
This has come up a lot. Unfortunately, the software we're using doesn't allow for more selections.
