People have said that I'm "just taking steroids". It's T, not steroids. They're not the same thing, are they? It's synthetic, yeah, but it's as close to the natural thing as you can get. And it's on a dosage schedule, it's not like we only use it before lifting weights or anything.
So is the only reason I look like this is because I'm "just taking steroids"?
T is an anabolic-androgenic steroid. Not all steroids are T.
So, yes, you are "just" taking steroids. As do other people with a host of other medical reasons to do so.
Sustanon (the most common type of T used in FTMs in the UK) is actually a class B controlled substance because bodybuilders use it.
I've been taking steroids for years, as they treat my autoimmune disorder. Steroids include anabolic steroids, known for their effects on bodybuilders, as well as corticosteroids, which treat all manner of immune response without gaining the reputation of cheating to get buff. When people say that T is a steroid, point out that the contents of every asthma inhaler and many anti-itch creams are also steroids, and that doesn't mean it's a bad thing at all.
The main steroid used by bodybuilders is testosterone. If you ever look at steroid forums, they always suggest that people start out with a testosterone-only cycle. Almost all cycles are built off a testosterone base. I would guess that testosterone in all its forms (cypionate, propionate, enanthate, etc) is the most abused steroid, but steroids are an umbrella term under which testosterone falls. But yeah, the steroid testosterone is the same thing we take...and bodybuilders take it on a schedule as well, usually once or twice a week, but at very high dosages. it provides the same long-term benefits to them as it does to us, except with more significant side effects, since they take such great amounts of it.
Hormones = steroids.
Birth control pills are also steroids.
Even something like an inhaler typically has steroids in it. It's common for medication to have steroids. As T is a steroid, as is estrogen, they're right, but point out that it's the same as what's being produced naturally in their bodies and not unusual (mention that birth control counts as well)
To quote wikipedia.
QuoteA steroid is a type of organic compound that contains a specific arrangement of four rings that are joined to each other. Examples of steroids include cholesterol, the sex hormones estradiol and testosterone, and the anti-inflammatory drug dexamethasone.
Anyone who's taken Prednisone or Cortisone has "taken steroids".
Likewise, this whole "natural" vs synthetic debate is pretty much garbage too. In a broad sense, EVERYTHING is natural. There's no difference from a chemical synthesized in nature to one synthesized by man.
I once heard this woman proudly proclaim on the news, in relation to some youth going wild story... "it's like testosterone and estrogen on steroids".
People simply don't have any clue what they're talking about. ;D
Don't do steroids, kids.

In a sense you are taking steroids because testosterone is a steroid, like others have said, but the way we take testosterone is not like steroid abusers take their steroids.
I don't think there nessicarily the same thing. If that's the case then why not call them steroids instead of T. Personally I think that's in insult because we take for medical reasons. Not to look like female bodybuilders
Well it is pretty different because we dont' already have (much) testosterone in our systems and take the amt of cis male would have their systems and do not take a bunch of other stuff either.

really its more of the people taking steroids are in most cases just taking T. you could also say teenage boys bodies are making a ton of steroid.
Don't matter if you are driving a car recklessly or driving a car legally you are still driving a car right.
Don't matter if you call it blue or red it's still a color right.
Don't matter if you call it Testosterone, Birth Control or an Inhaler it's still a Steroid.
Steroid is just term used to classify like things. Rap or Rock it's still music.
Testosterone is under the steroid umbrella. There are a lot if different drugs classified as steroids and like others have said not all steroids are testosterone, but it is a steroid according to drug classifications.
Testosterone is a steroid. However, you are taking it because you are deficient in testosterone and it is required to reach normal male levels. The motivation to take it is not the same as cis men and women taking steroids to boost their testosterone above their normal levels, it is to correct a health issue.
