Title: question about hrt and body fat
Post by: Eve of chaos on December 07, 2010, 09:59:35 PM
so ive read that hormones redistribute the body fat to more feminine areas but my question is does it move existing fat or does it only decide where new fat is stored?

I ask cause i have a nasty gut, and im dieting and exercising now but it got me thinking and made me curious as to what i can expect.

You're a couple of (okay quite a few!! :embarrassed:) years younger than me so hrt will work better and quicker, but tbh, keep dieting hun! I have more shape than I had but the belly is still there, I just can't get round to dieting till after xmas. :icon_burn:

I asked a similar question here - https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/topic,81701.msg572874.html#msg572874 (https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/topic,81701.msg572874.html#msg572874)

Fat cells don't physically move... The net effect is that it seems like fat is being moved over time, but it just gets absorbed from the old male areas and new fat gets put down in the female areas as our metabolism changes, and as our weight fluctuates naturally over time.

With me (and i think most others on HRT) any fat I seem to lose seems to drop from the old male areas first; if I gain it, it gains on the feminine areas first.

Nope. Nothing moves it. It only helps re-designate the areas where it will now accumulate. Short version: You still need to diet and excerise... and when on hrt, more than previously.
