Title: Electrolysis: Only 12 hours?
Post by: ClaireA on December 11, 2010, 12:23:25 AM
Today I went for my first electrolysis consultation. The electrolysis was very nice and had experience with transpeople - both good things. The pain was less and different from what I was expecting - I'm not really sure why I got myself all worked up about the pain before I tried it.

One thing that she mentioned, however, sounded a bit off to me. She said that her best guess of treatment time for full facial electrolysis would take about 6 months of hour-long appointments every other week. I'm no math genius, but that sounds like about 12 hours to me. This seems a bit short, seeing as how many MTFs can spend up to hundreds of hours of facial electrolysis for full treatment. Granted, my facial hair is quite thin and is probably about 1/3 of what most of my male friends have (probably due to some hormones at 16), but only 12 hours? Does this sound right?

I'm confused  ???

no way in hell is will be 12 hours at 1 every other week, 36 hours if cleared all at once I can believe, but not that.

Yeah, that was a red flag when I heard it. I guess I'll try a session or two, but I'll be sure to ask her again how long she thinks it'll take.

Flan: BTW, I saw in another post that you go to a electrologist in Woodbury. Not going to name names, but this lady is in New Brighton, and I think there is only one electrologist in NB - know anyone who might have heard anything about her?

I looked at her website, wouldn't trust her for charging more for genital electro (and nowhere is implied she can administer lidocaine for pain).

That sounds a bit off. I'm going in for an hour of electro EACH week, and that could probably last 6 months on its own, at which point I will still have to go in for less frequent sessions for up to another 6 months.

I've done both now and I actually find electrolysis to be far less painful than laser. With the laser I would be so much in pain that my eyes would well up with tears, but when I went to my first electrolysis session it felt more like a minor irritant. A few spots hurt more than others, but the same held true with the laser too. Granted, everyone handles pain differently, and I'm not yet on estrogen, which can make the skin more sensitive to charge, so don't take my full word on this.
