Title: Ridiculous Fashion Trends
Post by: V M on December 15, 2010, 07:47:48 PM
There are many fashion trends that give me a good Ha Ha

But the one that really gets my goat lately is the "Distressed" Jeans craze

I had to do laundry...(Yes, everyone's fav. chore) So I put on an old pair of jeans and went to wash my newer jeans and stuff... Too exciting right?

Well, one of my swell neighbors was excited... "Were did you get those jeans? They are so different from the others I've seen... They must of cost you a pretty penny... How much? $50? $100? I wish I could spend so much on jeans"

While trying to decide if I was being patronized or harangued I explained that they were just some old jeans I'd put on to do laundry and that I'd bought them new only to be interrupted with...

"Oh, won't tell me huh? Well I can see your panties!" Then she stomps off

"Wella wella well, okay" I thought "Maybe I can sell them to her"

What fashion trends have made you laugh?

Disclaimer : This is just my personal opinion and I'm terribly unfashionable!

"Distressed" jeans can be cool with the right look (Hint : A brand new polo shirt with the collar up is NOT it) - but they have to be naturally worn in. Fake just looks fake. Ripped makes me think 80's redneck.

What got me laughing was the fashion a few years ago, with jeans that looked like they had bleach stains down the front. Huge patches of yellow on new denim, in places where they normally wouldn't wear? Looks like somebody has had an accident.

Fake orange tan and bleached white hair. Looks stupid on girls, looks worse on guys. The only upshot - the hilarity of nightclubs resembling Willy Wonka's employee break room.

I have a pet hate for those (possibly 80's throwback) neon plastic aviators with the slats instead of lenses. Tacky, obscure vision, and offer absolutely NO UV protection? Why are we wasting our finite natural resources manufacturing useless crap this?
I can understand them being worn by young kids, but seriously - if you're wearing these and you're over 12 - you look like an idiot. Doubly so if you're male.

"Retro" shirts worn by people too young to remember the game / show / whatever on 'em. Unless you've seen it / played it, you're being a poser.

And finally - the whole young douchebag guy look. The type with scraggy unkempt collar length hair, scrawny and pasty white, wife beater singlet, eye burningly bright polyester board shorts, trucker cap at a stupid angle with a pin straight brim pointed skyward, and wearing a permanent mouth half open expression of complete and utter mental vacancy.
I'd like to hit these people across the back of the head with a lump of wood, but they walk around looking like some else has already beaten me to it .

I think I'm getting old .

It's kinda like the linoleum that came out in the 70s that was supposed to look like real wood floors. I don't care how easy it was to clean . It just looks like fake wood. My dad liked to call it "swanky"

You have to be careful with some of the faded, distressed jeans. Sometimes they are faded in a not so good way. It's makes the person wearing them look like they peed themselves or worse.

  Hugs Roxy

I can not see paying big $$$ for a pair of ratty old jeans.  Some of the ones I see in the store are, well I have thrown out better ones than those for sale.  ??? :o ::)

Wonder where they get them from? I could have made a fortune selling my rubbish jeans second hand.

A fashion that is here is guys wearing full length coats, a bit like the Matrix style. Fine except it's 35C.

Slave to fashion indeed.

Oh man, don't get me started.

Massively oversized jeans grind my gears. I'm quite sick of seeing people's underwear. A subtle flash of a band on your boxers if you lean forward or something is acceptable. I see so many people walking around with their jeans waistband under their butt cheeks and I wonder how exactly they are keeping them up while walking.

I hate those bobbles hats that seem to have migrated from being the fashion of 6 year olds in canada to being worn during the summer by these "gangsta" types. Or beanie hats worn by placing them on top of the head pretty much. You look like a bloody smurf.

Tracksuits tucked in to socks or tracksuits with one leg rolled up. I know the sock thing is used by people riding bikes sometimes but I fail to see why they need to walk around the supermarket or whatever like that :P

In fact just tracksuits in general, if you're not doing some form of exercise, you shouldn't be wearing a tracksuit.

Those cleavage flashing shirts that have come about for men recently. I've yet to see any guy pulling it off, I can't help but think "douche" whenever I spot one. Especially if it's teamed with gold chains.

I have to agree that the jeggings fall into this category. Wear jeans (that fit) or wear leggings.

I saw something a few months ago about a style that looked like a male burkha. Burkhas are ridiculous for males AND females.

Skinny jeans. Not the ones on the skeletal emo kids (those are probably the only thing that stays up over their butts), but the ones for the average jane/joe. Especially on hipsters. I do not need a perfect outline of your junk or cameltoe!

In the mid to late 80s I was tightening and then cuffing the legs of my already slim jeans so they would appear tight at the top of my shoes. I was not the only one. lol. I thought it was the coolest thing back then. As I look at this picture of Conan, I realize this is very similar to what me and my friends looked like back then. lol. After seeing this pic I have lost all hope that I was 'cool' back then. Hah. ;)

Low rise pants are very sexy if you have a great body.  They are NOT Attractive if there are fat rolls hanging over (muffin top).  It looks so silly to watch girls walk around always pulling their pants up because their butt ctacks are showinh especially because it's alwaysthe crack you DON'T want to see.... :o

It really depends on the quality. The cheap ones look absolutely gross. You know the fugly ass material with the jean pattern printed on them. But the better made, jean like material - made to look like actual jeans, ones look pretty good.

I think the Gap carries some that are really well made and you can't tell the difference between them and skinny jeans.

I spent Christmas with my family.  Every time I wore leggings my mom would go on about how I should get some jeggings.  I made lots of jokes about them, especially because the pajama jeans commercial was on tv about every 10 minutes.  But my sister had a pair and they looked nice.  I have never found a pair of skinny jeans that look right (I blame my height), so I tried a pair of "jean leggings" at the gap last week, and I love them.  I wear them with things I would normally wear leggings with,  but they are a bit heavier and less revealing.   They look great with boots in the winter and are a bit warmer.  I am definitely converted.

Me, I hate ripped or overly distress jeans.  If I am going to drop some money on a new pair of jeans, I want them to look new.  Also, I can't stand leggings with waist length tops outside of an athletic venue.  I also am no fan of fashion where your bra obviously shows through your top, too slutty!  I think I could go on, but thats all for now.

The way some folks wear their sneakers and jeans could possibly be seen as trendy, and some are rather ridiculous

But over all, sneakers and jeans are more of a common staple, not really a trend imo

I know a lot of hikers and runners who live in those.

I see lots of runners in them, particularly the cross-country runners out on the trails.

Also, extraordinarily skinny legs and body with huge long shoes and a gigantic square furry hat - make 'em look like a goose (unisex)

Those cloven-hoof shoes look badass! I wish I could get those, combined with my steeltoed boots. That would make me look like the Devil for sure! I'd terrify the population just by walking around. Hilarious!  >:-)

I don't like a look common in Sweden now, which is wearing a HUGE, white, billowy shirt/blouse thing, black leggings and clunky shoes. The bra is blatantly obvious, since it's black, when worn underneath the loose, semi-transparent blouse.
What annoys me the most about this style is that, well, it looks very "revealing", too revealing.

tanning, i just don't like it because some people look like ooompa loompas. i avoid sun as much as i can, so i can be as light as snow. using those tanning booths is going to wreck your skin, and age you.

LOL... I think tanning booths are one of the silliest things to come about in a long time

Even in So. Calif. The place where you just went outside and you would get a tan, the booths were really popular for quite awhile... Go figure... Then people started getting skin cancer  :P

I love drawn on eyebrows. Granted, *good* drawn on eyebrows.
This.  I've seen some REALLY nifty drawn on eyebrows.  And then there was my 7th grade social studies teacher, who had one normal painted brow and one super thick and drawn in the raised position eyebrow, so she looked perpetually like The Rock.  It was...distracting.

There was a girl I went to HS with who shaved her eyebrows off, and would draw them everyday. However, she always did them in a way that made her look as though she was in a perpetual state of surprise. It was quite funny, really.
