Post by: OrexisStCroix on December 18, 2010, 07:56:20 AM
Looking for some info on Marijuana and HRT interactions, if anyone knows where to look, I would greatly appreciate it.

Do not mix the two ... your body will go through several changes and a lot of stress during and while on HRT ... also Marijuana has a lot of negative effects ...

please out of concern for your health .. try to stop using marijuana or anyone else using it before going on HRT...

take care

::hugs::

Sadly, this is another of those issues where information is so polarised. Those that like it refuse to accept criticism, those that don't refuse to accept reason.

The best I can offer is that I've seen a lot of people suffering serious mental illness as a result of Marijuana. Some of it, permanent.

legality aside (as in illegal where you are), any smoked substance is going to cause inflammation, so it's best to not combine the two.

True the divide of opinion is quite polarised, I think criticism is one thing but backing up the criticism is really important. I see I lot of people rag on cannabis over things that are simple untrue with is saddening. I understand some people are against it and want to shut it down but if you want to try then get your facts straight. Everyone is different sure but my own personal experiences with it funnily enough disprove any negative claims I've seen. Not to say they 're not out there but out of all the "research" I've done I've never seen a reputable negative claim proven.

You helped provide an example, cannabis does not cause mental illness it simply can bring it to the surface in those that already have it, which in my eyes is a great thing because then you can deal with it sooner rather than later and get on with your life. Those that I have seen that are couch potato air heads were like that before they started smoking. Something to consider.

Personally I've been smoking weed for five years now, I lived with someone who was also transitioning that smoked cigarettes and she had a lot of issues where I didn't. I know we are all different and the issues could of been a result of other factors but I think it could be a good example that cannabis and cigarettes are not the same or are as harmful as each other. The difference is like weed = around 1000 chemicals and cigarettes are somewhere near ten times that. Sure smoke still enters the lungs but it's in moderation (two or three puffs a day is not the same as 10+ cigarettes) You'll also find more harmful chemicals in coffee so personally I say if it helps ease your stress and get you through transition then ...... that's your choice. ^________^

P.s for the past year I've only been smoking a legal smokeable incense and will be stopping it exactly three months prior to surgery. I couldn't say for sure if it could effect healing time of what is major surgery but to be safe I will be stopping. But saying that I will also be stopping coffee so... :P

I plan on getting a vaporizer when I start HRT. Most of the harm from cannabis smoking comes from the method of administration (ie smoking) than the substance itself. I'm not sure if the risks associated with tobacco and HRT come from the tobacco itself or the smoke, but if the latter was the case, then cannabis smoking would likely pose similar risks on HRT as tobacco smoking. However, if you cook some weed edibles or get a vaporizer, then you are not inhaling any smoke and thus the risk is eliminated.

the use of any illegal substances can cause problems with HRT, just as smoking and drinking alcohol can.  If you wish to screw up your HRT, be my guest but lets not lead others to think it is cool.

Last I check Marijuana was still illegal.

Not in all nations, not in all states, 1/3 of US states now have medical marijuana laws.

And it is still illegal by Federal law.  Having medical marijuana can still land you in federal prison.  Thus refer to rule 5

Federal law only applies to this country, other nations have different laws, including some that sell it openly, like the Netherlands - but of course you only have to drive around Portland to see medical marijuana dispensaries openly and publicly conducting business.

Oregon uber alles I guess.  I've just about gone blue in the face trying to tell people that since the WikiLeaks guy is an Aussie he can not, by definition:
a) be a traitor (unless it damages Australia)
b) be a patriot (unless it helps Australia)

But then again, lots of people over here think Australia is where Hitler came from.

OK.  Now we have a problem.  I very politely remind every one that Marijuana is still illegal in the United States.  And this website is located in the United States and must stand by its laws.

I reminded everyone that the rules did not allow for the depict illegal acts will not be permitted.  I let it go because everyone was discussing the pros and cons, and no one had when into how to do pot until one post.  It was not the posters fault, they were discussing getting around the toxicity of smoke.  Where the problem began was when it was taken to the next level.
