Title: T and muscle growth?
Post by: Cody Jensen on December 30, 2010, 06:40:34 PM
So I have heard you get muscle growth when you're on T. I am wondering where on your body you get this muscle? Does it give you abs by any chance?

You need to workout and eat my friend.  I just posted some pics on another thread that you can judge for yourself.  I've been on T for about 5 years..........

I gained a lot of muscle on my torso/upper body on T and it helped to further define my legs which were already muscular. Prior to getting HRT I was working out diligently, lifting weights, for about 2, nearly 3 years. When I started HRT I was not able to work out (I was recovering from surgery) but I packed on a lot of muscle anyway. I did not restrict my food other than avoiding junk and eating a good balance of protein with healthy carbs and fats, and I gained a lot of muscle weight. So, the T will help a lot but you still need to exercise and eat properly to condition your body.

If you want abs, do bicycle crunches to tone them up and make sure your body fat is low enough to show 'em off.

It is important to know that Testosterone is not a weight loss drug or an automatic muscle builder like a diet pill would claim to be.

I have gained quite a bit of muscle on T.  I went from 34% body fat to 20% body fat in 8 months but I've been very diligent about my diet and working out HARD with weights in the gym.  So hard that quite often I can barely move afterwards.  Right now I'm on an all protein, high fat, high calorie diet 6 days a week.  Which isn't easy to do btw.  I'm saying all of this to point out that muscle doesn't come from nowhere.  You have to work and be seriously dedicated to get it.  T is a steroid so yes it does help but it's not am automatic.

I've come a long way in terms of fitness.  I went from barely being able to do a single regular push up to be able to do 50 in a row.  I can also do pull-ups and dips from free hanging which I didn't have a prayer of doing before.  My muscles are obvious and visible especially my forearms which is awesome.

My biceps and forearms have gotten way bigger, as well as my calf muscles. Although I do work out and lift weights everyday. But the speed of muscle growth on T is amazing. Pre T when i worked out it was frustrating because you never really could see any results.

As far as muscle growth in the ab region I have not heard of this, in fact T has a tendency to redistribute fat to the stomach region. I am different than most guys that are on T because I have dropped almost 30lbs since starting T. I had a little beer belly pre T and now it is flat and I am working on a six pack, but I am sure that has a lot to do with the weight loss which isn't typical.

Most guys want to be ripped once they start T but then they slack off. As long as you are consistent in your workouts then you will have progress. The fact that the T produces quick results as far as muscle growth it helps to keep you from getting discouraged when you can actually look in the mirror and see a difference in a short period of time.

Testosterone is an anabolic hormone so given the right environment (e.g. training, diet and adequate rest) your body will gain muscle. There will also be a redistribution of bodyfat and it should be easier for you to lose abdominal fat.
