The society in which I live is, by default, transphobic. From the lawmakers and medical professionals to the proverbial man on the Clapham omnibus, it's my experience that the number of cis people who don't believe it to be their right to act as judge, jury and executioner of trans people is very small. In its pursuit of the systemic and institutionalised oppression of trans people, the transphobic state uses propaganda as one method of perpetuating bigotry in its cis population. And, as I have written here too many times to count, one of the most successful methods of propagating disinformation is through the mass media: television, radio and printed media such as newspapers offer particularly effective means to do this.

It comes as no great surprise, then, to see a newspaper which only eight months ago was pointing out the comparatively low cost of abdominal surgeries specific to binary-identified transsexual women, now indulging in a bout of pearl-clutching about the cost of chest surgeries specific to binary-identified transsexual women.

This occured to me as well, in the other thread which dirctly referred to the newspapers concerned.

Though, to be fair to the papers concerned, the story isn't so much transphobic as intended to remind their readers that the NHS along with the very core of UK society, is going down the tubes, because we made the mistake of not voting for the party they told us to.

Now, I'm sure that, along with the rest of the British public, I am deeply ashamed.

Dumb question maybe, but I'm confused -- what abdominal surgeries are performed on MTFs?
