So I have to ride my bike to work tomorrow as my car is too illegal to drive now. And by bike I mean bicycle, not motorcycle. It should be a harrowing adventure. I might even luck out and get hit by a car!
Well, I used to park in the commuter lot and ride my bike over my car when I went to the city. It's not usually bad in the city so long as you follow the local rules, (For example here you cannot ride on the sidewalk, have to handsignal, etc). Please do be careful though, Even with mirrors and lights on my bike I have had a few close calls.
The most dangerous thing is cars parked on the road opening their doors, in my state bicycles have the same right to the road cars do, so I wont get over to the right in the path of car doors, even if it does frustrate them behind me. It is all part of riding defensively. Also, I find that if I load stuff onto the rear rack of my bike, it is more stable than carrying it in a backpack or over the handlebars.
I hope it works out well for you, be careful out there, sometimes cars don't respect or know the rules with bikes.
I used to ride my bike all the time in Pittsburgh. However I don't live in the city and the cars fly down those back roads. I'm betting a car shatters my elbow.
spend a couple of dollars on the warning signs on flexi stalks that cyclists can fix to their saddle so that they stick out and make motorists drive wide of them.
seems the little sign acts as a psychological warning that makes drivers steer wide of it.
I gave up my cars about 10 years ago, best decision I've ever made really.
